K-State Faces Creighton in Only Duel of the Fall

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's rowing team competed in the lone fall competition on Saturday, September 26, in a duel against the Creighton Bluejays at Carter Lake in Omaha, Neb.

"We had a good weekend competing with Creighton. The team has stayed focused on pushing our training and trying to see what we are capable of as a group," head coach Kennedy Felice said. "In both sets of races, we ran some mixed lineups. Our main goals were to race hard and continue building on everything we've been working on in practice.

"We're happy with how we competed. We know there is still work to be done, but we accomplished our goals, and we took some solid steps forward as a team."

The Wildcats and Bluejays battled in two 3,000-meter head races, with both teams fielding five varsity 4+ boats and three varsity 8+ boats.

"This fall we have definitely grown, and we saw that in our races against Creighton," senior captain Madelyn Navrkal said. "The team is still young-- I am proud of the work we've put in up to this point and how the team continues to show up and work every day."

During the varsity four race, the Cats secured the win with 'K-State A' finishing at 12:33.18. 'K-State B' came in 3^rd place at 12:54.94 following 'Creighton C'. Three more K-State boats crossed the finish line consecutively claiming fifth through seventh place.

"This fall we've had a lot of opportunities to get better on the water, which has helped our team grow in so many ways," senior captain Regan Reker said. "I think we saw this pay off in our races this weekend. Not only are we physically stronger and more fit, we are becoming more technically sound."

K-State finished in the second through fourth place spots competing in the Varsity 4+ race.

"I am excited to see what the team does with the rest of fall training and to see what we can grow into by the spring season," Reker added. "We have a solid foundation to continue to build off of."

In the new year K-State will conduct a winter training camp before the start of the 2027 season in March.

"We want to thank Dan Chipps and his staff for hosting this race. We appreciate everything they did to make this possible," Felice said. "The team has done a good job this fall continuing to push our strength and endurance. It's still early in the year, but we're looking forward to the spring."
