The Wildcats will race in the third meet of the season in a smaller field of teams
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams will finish up the regular season on Saturday (October 17) with the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater, Okla., at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course hosted by Oklahoma State.
The men's 8k will start at 10 a.m., before the women's 6k kicks off at 10:45 a.m. Other competing teams include the USTFCCCA top-10 ranked men's and women's OSU teams, Oral Roberts, the East Texas A&M women and individuals from Tulsa.
This will mark the first of two consecutive races in Stillwater; Oklahoma State will also host the Big 12 Championship in two weeks on Saturday, October 31.
The last time the Wildcats ran in the Weis-Crockett Invite was in 2022, in a much bigger field of 26 teams, the men finished in 15th place and the women in 18th. But the Cats are no stranger to the Cowboys' home course, last season K-State finished the season at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Stillwater.
During the last meet at the Gans Creek Classic on September 25, multiple Wildcats achieved personal success while the men's team finished in 17th place with 449 points, the women at 18th place with 499 points.
Two men, sophomore Max Larson and junior Brock Olsen, ran the men's 8k in under 24-minutes, the first Cats to do so since 2020. Larson (61st; 23:56.6) and Olsen (68th; 23:59.7) as well as junior Jackson Esquibel (72nd; 24:01.3) landed in the K-State all-time top-5 with their new personal best times, claiming the third-fifth fastest times in program history. Larson's time is exactly two seconds shy of the men's 8k school record of 23:54.6 by Cooper Schroeder in 2020.
On the women's side, freshman Joyce Kiptabut (65th; 20:54.2) and sophomore Emma Baum (73rd; 21:00.0) ran in the first 6k's of their career, also earning a spot in the school top-25 at no. 13 and a tie for no. 16, respectively.
