Wildcats Remain in Fifth at Blessings Collegiate Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kansas State women's golf team posted a second-round score of 18-over par 306 on Sunday, as the Wildcats remain in fifth place at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational held at the par-72, 6,503-yard Blessings Golf Club.
Â
K-State holds a 36-hole score of 27-over par 603, five shots behind fourth-place Kent State and 10 shots clear of the sixth-place team, North Texas.
Â
"The course played a lot tougher today as it dried out and the wind came up," head coach Stew Burke said about a course that played a collective 7.52 shots over par on Sunday. "We battled hard to stay in touch, but again our fourth score just wasn't what we needed. The ladies are disappointed, but the Blessings is a course that highlights weaknesses and challenges your game like a U.S. Open. Tomorrow is another opportunity to play well and get the team score we are capable of."
Â
Freshman Amy Wang led the Wildcats on Sunday with a round of 2-over par 74. She was able to rise three spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 12th place at 4-over par 148, looking for the first top-15 finish of her young career.
Â
Junior Kelsey Chen remains in the top 10 despite a round of 3-over par 75, her first over-par round since the final 18 holes of the Schooner Fall Classic two tournaments ago. She fell one spot to a tie for seventh place with a 36-hole score of 2-over par 146.
Â
Fellow junior Nanami Nakashima also slipped one spot to a tie for 16th place at 6-over par 150 after posting a score of 4-over par 76 on Sunday.
Â
Sophomore Keen Visavapattamawan is in 39th place at 16-over par 160, while senior Julia Ballester Barrio is tied for 41st place at 18-over par 162.
Â
Alabama remained atop the leaderboard and is still the only squad under par through 36 holes as the Crimson Tide are at 2-under par 574. Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin and Princeton's Thanana Kotchasanmanee are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under par 137.
Â
The Blessings Collegiate Invitational concludes on Monday, and live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
