Chikomba Named Big 12 Men’s Athlete of the Week
Feb 04, 2026 | Track & Field
He is the first Wildcat to earn the indoor weekly award since January 2020
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State junior Tah Chikomba was named the Big 12 Men's Athlete of the Week on Wednesday (February 4) as announced by the conference. He becomes the 15th Wildcat to earn the indoor weekly honor, the first since fellow long jumper Jullane Walker on January 15, 2020.
"I'm proud of Tah," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "His success comes from being coachable. He's willing to listen and learn. He's just at the beginning of his journey, more fun times ahead."
On January 30, he won the World Athletics Bronze men's long jump with a leap of 8.09m (26' 6.5") during the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, just half an inch short of his personal best from last April. During that competition he beat world class athletes, such as Jeremiah Davis (USA), Kennedy Stringfellow (OU), fellow Wildcat Uroy Ryan, Malcom Clemmons (USA), Nikaoli Williams (JAM) and LaQuan Nairn (BAH).
A native of Zimbabwe, Chikomba is currently no. 2 in the NCAA men's long jump, the best in the Big 12, also the no. 6 best performance in the world according to World Athletics.
During the first meet of the season, the Thane Baker Invitational on January 16, he also won the competition with a jump of 7.83m (28' 5.25") from short approach.
K-State will compete again on February 13-14 in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., at the Randall Tyson Indoor Track.
