K-State Falls to Omaha Tuesday
Apr 14, 2026 | Baseball
"A frustrating night, but when it comes down to is Omaha played better than we did tonight, that's for sure – in every phase," said K-State head coach Pete Hughes. "Starting pitching, bullpen, offensively — they were better. I mean, they had 16 hits; we had six. They left nine on base and still scored 12 runs."
"For those guys to come on the road in a Power 4 environment and jump out to a lead, that's what you're supposed to do," Hughes added. "Jump out, take the lead and keep building it. That was impressive. Impressive win by Omaha. We didn't play well tonight and need to fix it as we get on the road to play Arizona, who's playing very well."
THE RUNDOWN
Omaha (12-17, 7-5 Summit) attacked early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead over the first two innings and forcing an early K-State (23-14, 7-8 Big 12) pitching change.
In the bottom of the second, redshirt freshman Chandler Murray laced a two-run single to right-center before Shea McGahan lifted a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to three.
The teams traded runs over the next two frames, highlighted by a solo home run from Dee Kennedy — his 15th of the season — as K-State pulled within three at 8-5.
Omaha broke it open in the final inning, scoring three runs to make it 12-5.
