Lindstrom Leads Cats Midway Through Big 12 Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Kansas State senior men's golfer Alex Lindstrom turned in a pair of rounds of 1-under par on Monday to reside in the top 10 through 36 holes of the 2026 Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate held at the par-70, 7,025-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club.
As a team, K-State is tied for 11th place in the 16-team field at 17-over par 577. The Wildcats are tied with No. 34 Utah, one shot behind ninth-ranked Arizona State and two shots shy of a tie for eighth place between No. 38 Kansas and Iowa State.
"It was a typical Prairie Dunes day," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The wind kicked up late in the morning, and the hole locations really presented a challenge. I thought we did a good job grinding through it. Alex was obviously very solid all day as was Ville (Virkkala), and Shea (Harmeson) had a great bounce back in round two. There is still a lot of golf to play. It was a long day, so we need to get back and reset, rest up and get back after it tomorrow."
Lindstrom, who is tied for seventh place at 2-under par 138, is tied for fourth in the 80-man field by going even par on the par 3s, while he tallied seven birdies on the day to tie for 14th place.
A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Lindstrom began his first round on No. 15 with a bogey in addition to a bogey on No. 7 as he was 2-over par through 13 holes. However, he birdied three of his final five holes, including his closing two holes. In the second round, Lindstrom was bogey free and 4-under par through 11 holes, but three bogeys down the stretch brought him back to 1-under par.
Lindstrom now has nine rounds in the 60s and 13 under-par rounds this season, which leads the Wildcats in both categories.
Playing in his first Big 12 Championship, freshman Ville Virkkala recorded identical rounds of 1-over par 71 to reside in a tie for 25th place at 2-over par 142. The Espoo, Finland, product's first round was fairly clean with one birdie and two bogeys, while he had one more of each during the afternoon 18. Like Lindstrom, Virkkala played the par 3s at even par, and he ranks fourth in the field with 28 total pars.
Senior Shea Harmeson rebounded from a 7-over par opening round by posting a score of 1-under par 69 in the afternoon. It was his fourth round in the 60s this season as the Traverse City, Michigan, native had two bogeys and three birdies in the afternoon, including one on his 16th hole of the day to produce his 10th under-par round of the season. Harmeson enters Tuesday's third round tied for 49th place at 6-over par 146.
Freshman Oliver Toyer recorded scores of 7-over par 77 in each round as he is tied for 74th place at 14-over par 154. He is one shot ahead of senior JP Roller, who is in 77th place.
Fifth-ranked Oklahoma State holds a seven-shot lead over No. 20 Arizona at 14-under par 546. No. 6 Texas Tech is the only other team to be under par at the midway point of the championship as the Red Raiders are at 1-under par.
Oklahoma State's Preston Stout – the third-ranked player in the nation – holds a two-shot advantage on the individual leaderboard at 8-under par 132.
K-State begins the third round of the Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate with tee times off the 10th tee on Tuesday starting at 10 a.m., as the Wildcats will be paired with Arizona State, Kansas and Utah. Live results can be followed on SCOREBOARD powered by Clippd.
