HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas State men's golf team posted a final-round total of 15-over par 295 on Wednesday at the 2026 Big 12 Championship presented by Allstate held at the par-70, 7,025-yard Prairie Dunes Country Club. The Wildcats finished the championship in 12th place with a 72-hole score of 34-over par 1,154.
"It wasn't the result that we wanted, but I am proud of how the guys competed this week," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Playing 72 holes on a golf course this tough is a huge challenge both physically and mentally, and I thought we showed a little bit of fatigue today. The hole locations made it really tough to get anything close, and we were not able to convert enough of the 5-6 foot par putts to gain any momentum."
K-State was led during the Big 12 Championship by freshman Ville Virkkala, who tied for 24th place at 4-over par 284. It marked the first time the Wildcats had a freshman lead them in the conference championship since Nicklaus Mason tied for 25th in 2022.
A native of Espoo, Finland, Virkkala, who led the field with 56 total pars, turned in K-State's round of the day by posting a fourth-consecutive score of 1-over par 71, moving five spots up the leaderboard on the final day. He did so with a bogey on each half of the course in addition to a birdie on his 16th hole of the day, the par-5 7th.
"I am really proud of how Ville played this week," Robbins said. "The poise and steadiness he showed, especially as a freshman, was very impressive."
Seniors Shea Harmeson and Alex Lindstrom were the other two Wildcats to compete in all four rounds of the Big 12 Championship as they tied for 42nd place at 9-over par 289. Harmeson turned in a final-round total of 6-over par 76, while Lindstrom carded a 10-over par 80.
After being subbed out for the third round, senior JP Roller reentered the lineup on the final day, producing a score of 3-over par 73 with four birdies on the day as he tied for 76th place.
Sophomore Fionn Dobbin remained in the lineup for the final round after entering during round three. The Lisburn, Northern Ireland, product turned in a final-round tally of 5-over par 75 as he finished in 80th place. Freshman Oliver Toyer was not part of the scoring lineup on Wednesday, finishing the event in 78th.
Fifth-ranked Oklahoma State won its 13th Big 12 Championship with a four-round tally of 10-under par 1,110, eight shots ahead of No. 20 Arizona. The Cowboys' Preston Stout – the third-ranked player in the nation – earned the individual title at 11-under par 269, as he won the Big 12 individual title for a conference record third-straight year.
