
Wildcats Come Up Short at UCF, Falling 4-0

K-State will have just one more road match, against Houston on April 5
ORLANDO, Fla.- The K-State women's tennis team began the final road trip of the regular season on Friday (April 3) falling to UCF, the team's highest ranked opponent this season, 4-0 at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center.
K-State (5-11, 2-8 Big 12) started off strong in the doubles matches but could not secure the point to the #19 Golden Knights (15-3, 8-2 Big 12) while battles in singles play went unfinished due to three quick losses.
Back in the no. 2 court, freshman Sasha Kyselova and sophomore Chanel Rustemova started off in the lead over Olivia Bergler and Lauren Seye before falling short at 4-6. Freshmen Varvara Bernovich and Diana Smolinska could only manage to put up two points against Jade Psnoka and Vladislava Andreevskaya in the no. 3 spot, losing 2-6.
The Wildcats' #80 ranked doubles duo, junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav and freshman Martaa Chogsomjav were up 5-4 versus Jantje Tilbuerger and Marina Gatell in the no. 1 position before the match went unfinished.
Bernovich competed in the no. 6 court against Seye where she put up points in both sets and attempted to force a third but it just wasn't enough as she fell short 6-3, 6-4.
Rustemova and Kyselova recorded similar results in the no. 3 and 5 spots, respectively. Rustemova faced Psnoka in the no. 5 court where she could only string together one point in the first set and a boost in the second just wasn't enough, falling 6-1, 6-3.
Playing in the no. 3 position again, Kyselova collected two points to start versus Gatell but lost her momentum in the second set resulting in a 6-2, 6-1 loss.
Maralgoo was the only Wildcat to win a set, encountering a tiebreaker against Tilbuerger while playing back in the no. 1 court. Maralgoo maintained her momentum to secure the first set in a high scoring back and forth duel at 7-6 (9-7). The match went unfinished in the second with the score at 7-6 (9-7), 3-4.
Maralgoo was the only Wildcat to win a set, encountering a tiebreaker against Tilbuerger while playing back in the no. 1 court. Playing in the no. 2 spot, Martaa fell short to start against Bergler but was fighting back in the second set where she was down at just 3-6, 5-6.
Smolinska battled in the first set against Andreevskaya, 5-7 in the no. 4 position, and was ahead in the second set when she retired the match medically at 5-7, 3-2.
On Sunday (April 5) K-State will take on #41 Houston (15-5, 5-5 Big 12) in Houston, Texas, at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility at 1 p.m.
