
Chikomba Selected to The Bowerman Semifinalist List

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State junior Tah Chikomba was named to The Bowerman Semifinalist list on Thursday (June 25) as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men's three finalists will be announced on Tuesday, June 30, with online fan voting open from June 30-July 2.
The Bowerman- collegiate track & field's highest honor- is awarded each year to the top male and female collegiate athletes in the sport of NCAA track & field.
Chikomba was crowned the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the long jump on June 10 with a leap of 8.37m (27' 5.5"), a new K-State school record, becoming just the second Wildcat to earn the title since 1951 with Herb Hoskins. Chikomba's jump was the furthest jump to win at the outdoor championship since 2018.
On May 27, at the NCAA West Preliminary, Chikomba jumped 8.75m (28' 8.5"), with a wind aide of 3.2, becoming the NCAA #1 all-conditions all-time performance, surpassing Erick Walder's 8.74m jump from 1997, and #7 in the world all-conditions all-time.
Other The Bowerman Semifinalists include Kayinsola Ajayi (Auburn), Simeon Birnbaum (Oregon), Geoffrey Kirwa (Louisville), Zaza Nnamdi (Texas A&M), Samuel Ogazi (Alabama), Jaiden Reid (LSU), Colin Sahlman (Northern Arizona), Habtom Samuel (New Mexico) and Ja'Kobe Tharp (Auburn). Chikomba is the only jumper on the list, among four sprinters, four distance runners and a thrower.
Chikomba, a native of Zimbabwe, is K-State's second Semifinalist, the first since Erik Kynard in 2012 and 2013.
The women's Semifinalist includes two women from the Big 12 Conference, Temitope Adeshina (Texas Tech) and Jane Hedengren (BYU).
