K-State Moves to Seventh in Second Round

NORMAN, Okla. – Thanks to its first under-par round of the season on Sunday, the Kansas State women's golf team rose one spot into seventh place following the second round of the Schooner Fall Classic held at the par-70, 6,182-yard Belmar Golf Club.

The Wildcats produced a score of 4-under par 276 as they hold a 36-hole score of 3-under par 557. K-State is two shy of a tie for fifth place between Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech.

"We are happy with the day – we got off to a little bit of a slow start, but we hung in there well and started to pick up some momentum around the middle of the round," head coach Stew Burke said. "I am really pleased with how we closed because we were finishing on some very tough holes. Obviously having two deep under-par rounds from Stalee (Fields) and Kelsey (Chen) helped a lot. But, again, having five scores in it right up until the end really meant that if anyone had a wobble, there was a teammate there to pick them up, which is all I can ask for."

Junior Kelsey Chen and sophomore Stalee Fields each recorded rounds of 4-under par 66 with five birdies on the day as they moved up 16 spots into a tie for 10th place with a 36-hole score of 4-under par 136. The duo tied for the ninth-lowest round in program history as Chen tied her career-low round and Fields was one shot shy of tying her low.

Junior Nanami Nakashima and freshman Amy Wang were the other two counters for the Wildcats on Sunday with a round of 2-over par 72. Nakashima enters Monday's final round in a tie for 43rd place at 2-over par 142, while Wang is tied for 46th place at 3-over par 143.

Freshman Mia Ingham shot a second-consecutive round of 4-over par 74 on Sunday as she is tied for 75th place at 8-over par 148.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Keen Visavapattamawan followed up her under-par round on Saturday with a round of even par on Sunday as her three birdies erased her three bogeys on the day. She enters the final round in a tie for 22nd place at 1-under par 139.

Iowa State took over the top spots on the team leaderboard at 19-under par 541 thanks to a Moving Day score of 13-under par 267. The Cyclones hold a six-shot lead over a tie for second place between TCU and home-standing Oklahoma.

Virginia Tech's Xin Yao Wang and Oklahoma's Earn Thiengsri – the latter of whom is competing as an individual – are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under par 133.
