• 2022-23 First Team Academic All-Big 12

CAREER: Saw action in 28 games over the final three years of his career, primarily on special teams in addition to seeing some time as a reserve safety.

2023: Played in all 13 games as a valuable member of K-State’s four core special teams units, while he saw action as a reserve safety against SEMO, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, Baylor and NC State, the latter being in the Pop-Tarts Bowl... Tied his career high with two tackles against TCU, Houston and Baylor... One of his tackles against Baylor came on a muffed snap on a punt as he forced and recovered a fumble on the two-yard line, and K-State scored on the next play... Broke up his first-career pass against Houston... Earned First Team Academic All-Big 12 accolades.

2022: A standout special teams player who saw time in all 14 games as he tied for second on the team with four special teams tackles, including three on kickoff coverage... Had six overall tackles on the season, including a career-high two stops against South Dakota when he saw time as a reserve safety... A First Team Academic All-Big 12 performer.

2021: Made a tackle in K-State’s Texas Bowl win over LSU, the first playing time of his career.

2020: Did not see any game action.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-year letterwinner at Naperville North under head coach Sean Drendel... Earned all-state honors as a defensive back and wide receiver during his senior campaign in addition to earning co-conference offensive player of the year honors and all-area accolades... Carded 697 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, 141 rushing yards and two more scores in addition to a kickoff-return touchdown during his final season... Also a three-year letterwinner in lacrosse, earning a pair of academic all-conference honors in addition to his one in football.

PERSONAL: Matthew Maschmeier was born December 10, 2001, in Lisle, Illinois... Son of Tom and Julie Maschmeier... Has three siblings, Nick, Rachel and Eric... Father, Tom, played defensive back for Notre Dame as he was a member of the 1973 National Championship team... Majoring in professional strategic selling.
