Jared Helin served six full seasons with the K-State women’s golf program as he was named an assistant coach for the Wildcats in December 2016 before resigning his post in June 2023.
Helin instantly made an impact in the spring of 2017 by helping guide the Wildcats to a win in their first tournament, the Westbrook Invitational. K-State, which also finished third at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate that April, earned a team bid to postseason play for the fifth time in school history when it competed in the NCAA Athens Regional.
In addition to the team’s postseason appearance in 2017, Helin also aided with two other individual appearances in NCAA Regionals as Connie Jaffrey earned a bid to the 2018 NCAA Madison Regional and Haley Vargas to the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional.
A Kansas native, Helin helped the Wildcats place in the top 10 in team stroke average three times, including a third-place showing in 2016-17 at 298.00. He has also had a hand in seven of the top 10 individual stroke averages in school history in Jaffrey in 2017-18 (1st; 72.85), Haley Vargas in 2022-23 (3rd; 73.90), Manon Donche-Gay in 2022-23 (4th; 74.07), Niamh McSherry in 2019-20 (5th; 74.16), Reid Isaac in 2019 (7th; 74.52) and Jaffrey again in 2016-17 (8th; 74.57).
In his first full year as an assistant coach, Helin helped bring along a freshman-dominated lineup that was mixed with one of the best golfers in program history. Thanks in part to Helin, the four freshmen came together to rank K-State fifth in the nation in the Golfstat Freshman Class Impact Ranking.
The veteran of the group was Jaffrey and, thanks to Helin's help, the Scottish native finished her career as the school's record holder in career stroke average (74.13) and single-season stroke average (72.85 in 2017-18).
Two of those freshmen, McSherry and Isaac, would go on to have outstanding careers thanks to the help of Helin. Isaac tallied two of the top-five best rounds in school history and has the third most top-five finishes (8). McSherry carded three of the school’s 25 best 54-hole rounds.
A familiar face to the program, Helin began working full time at Colbert Hills in July 2014, overseeing staff management and tournament operations in addition to golf instruction, while he was a Volunteer First Tee Junior Golf Coach. While at Colbert Hills, Helin worked concurrently for Acushnet Company as a Titleist Product Specialist.
Helin began working at Colbert Hills as a four-year member of the pro shop staff prior to spending time as an assistant golf professional at Wamego Country Club.
A Titleist Certified Expert Club Fitter, Helin is a 2012 Kansas Golf Association Four-Ball Champion and a 2014 Mid-Am Kanza Cup Qualifier.
Helin graduated from Kansas State in 2015 with a degree in social sciences. The Colby, Kansas, native also attended Professional Golfers Career College in Temecula, California in 2008.
