Jason Mansfield, who has been a part of seven NCAA Final Fours and one national championship during stints at Stanford and Washington, enters his fourth season at the helm of the Kansas State volleyball program after being selected as the ninth head coach on Dec. 27, 2022.
In three seasons, Mansfield boasts a career mark of 44-38 (.537) and owns an 28-26 (.519) record in Big 12 action, including 11 wins over Top 25 opponents. Most notably, he led K-State to a historic sweep over No. 3 and national champion Texas in 2023 – the Longhorns only Big 12 loss in their final season in the conference.
During his time in Manhattan, Mansfield has overseen nine All-Big 12 selections, six All-Region honorees, two All-Americans, one Big 12 All-Rookie Team selection, and the 2025 AVCA Region Player of the Year in Shaylee Myers.
The Wildcats have also found success in the classroom under Mansfield, as K-State has garnered 18 Big 12 All-Academic honors and eight Academic All-District distinctions by the College Sports Communicators (formally CoSIDA). The Wildcats have also earned the AVCA Academic Team Award – an honor which is given to programs that maintain a team grade point average of 3.30 or higher during the academic year. In 2023, libero Mackenzie Morris notched the Big 12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first athlete in league history to earn the achievement twice.
Last season, Mansfield guided K-State to one of its most successful seasons in recent history in 2025, leading the Wildcats to an 18-10 overall record and a 10-8 mark record in the nation's top-ranked conference by RPI. The 18 victories were the most under Mansfield's leadership and helped propel K-State to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2021.
The 2025 Wildcats earned the program’s first postseason victory since 2016, defeating eighth-seeded San Diego in a thrilling five-set opening-round match. K-State also matched a program record, originally set by Mansfield's 2023 squad, with five top-25 wins, highlighted by a five-set victory over in-state rival No. 14 Kansas in Lawrence. The win snapped an eight-match losing streak against the Jayhawks.
Shaylee Myers earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, becoming the second Wildcat under Mansfield to receive All-America recognition. Myers and Ava LeGrand were both named AVCA First Team All-Region selections, while Myers became the first player in school history to earn AVCA Region Player of the Year honors. Myers was later selected 16th overall by the Atlanta Vibe in the 2025 Major League Volleyball Draft, becoming one of only three Big 12 players chosen in the draft.
Myers delivered one of the most prolific offensive seasons in school history, setting the rally-scoring era record with 12 matches of 20 or more kills and posting a school rally-scoring era record 4.70 kills per set. Her 39.5-point performance at West Virginia (Oct. 1), featuring 34 kills and five service aces, established the rally-scoring era single-match points record and ranks second all-time in K-State history.
LeGrand emerged as one of the conference's top setters, earning Second Team All-Big 12 recognition after leading the Wildcats with 1,063 assists and 32 service aces. She ranked third in the Big 12 and 44th nationally with 10.03 assists per set while recording a team-best 17 double-doubles, the most by a Wildcat since All-American Katie Brand in 2016.
Aniya Clinton also garnered Second Team All-Big 12 honors after finishing among the team leaders in kills, points, and digs. The outside hitter registered 18 double-digit kill performances, including three matches with 20 or more kills and back-to-back 25-kill outings.
Defensively, the Wildcats ranked among the Big 12's best, finishing third in the conference with 14.69 digs per set while holding opponents to a .198 hitting percentage, the fifth-lowest mark in the league.
In Mansfield’s second season at the helm, the 2024 K-State volleyball team finished with a 10-17 overall record and went 8-10 in Big 12 play, placing eighth in the conference standings. The Wildcats’ defense stood out, leading the Big 12 and ranking 29th nationally with 16.75 digs per set, amassing a total of 1,776 digs – the third-most in the league.
Individually, Aliyah Carter earned First Team All-Big 12 honors and was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week three times, setting a school record for the most career offensive weekly awards. Ella Larkin also garnered recognition with a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team.
In the inaugural season of the Mansfield era, K-State achieved a record-breaking five Top 25 wins: No. 18 Baylor, No. 25 Iowa State, No. 8 BYU (twice), and No. 3 Texas. The Wildcats posted a 16-11 overall record with a 10-8 mark in Big 12 play, just missing out on a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
K-State’s historic sweep over eventual 2023 NCAA National Champion Texas snapped a 39-match losing streak against the Longhorns and handed them their only Big 12 Conference loss of the season.
Following the season, middle blocker Sydney Bolding, outside Aliyah Carter and libero Mackenzie Morris each received AVCA All-Midwest Region recognition, marking just the fourth time K-State had three all-region honors in the same season and second with all first team accolades.
Bolding became the program’s first-ever draft pick, as she was selected 11th overall by the Grand Rapids Rise in the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation draft. The Pickens, S.C., product was the fourth selection of the second round and was one of eight players from the Big 12 selected in the draft. She finished the regular season as the Conference leader in total blocks (134) and was second with a block average of 1.40, ranking 35th and 12th nationally in both categories.
Carter, who became the first player in school history to earn unanimous First Team All-Big 12 honors three times, recorded her 1,000th career kill to become the 19th Wildcat to achieve the milestone. She wrapped up the 2023 as the team leader in kills (390), kills per set (4.06), points (438), and points per set (4.56) with a career best 26 aces. Carter received AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors, becoming the 12th Wildcat to earn All-American status and first since 2014.
Morris became the first player in league history to be voted as the Big 12 Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year twice and in consecutive seasons, boasting a 4.0 grade point average throughout her career. During the regular season, she averaged 4.82 digs per set to lead all Power 5 programs, while she also led the Big 12 in total digs (468).
Mansfield’s success came as no surprise as he was one of the most experienced and accomplished assistant coaches in the country, serving on staff at powerhouse programs Washington and Stanford. Overall, Mansfield has mentored a total of 26 individual players that have earned 66 All-America honors during his 21 years of coaching and has coached five athletes that have gone on to compete in the Olympic Games for Team USA.
AT WASHINGTON (2018-22)
In his five seasons at Washington, Mansfield helped the Huskies advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament four times, the Elite Eight in 2019, and then to the Final Four in the spring of 2021. His work with the outside hitters netted seven All-America honors for three Huskies: Kara Bajema, Samantha Drechsel, and Claire Hoffman, with Bajema and Drechsel each garnering first-team status. Bajema broke the UW single season kills record in 2019 and ranked fourth in the NCAA with 597 and has since gone on to a stellar pro career overseas and a spot on the U.S. Senior National Team. Hoffman landed on the second team in 2020 and 2022 and was a third-team selection in 2021. With her third All-America honor, Hoffman joined an elite group of Husky outside hitters with three or more All-America honors.
AT ILLINOIS (2016-18)
Mansfield coached three more All-Americans in two seasons and another future U.S. Olympian in Jordyn Poulter. The 20 All-America players he coached at Stanford and Illinois combined for 46 total AVCA honors. In his second and final season at Illinois, the Fighting Illini advanced to the NCAA Round of 16, upsetting Washington in the second round.
AT STANFORD (2004-15)
As an assistant coach at Stanford working with AVCA Hall of Fame Head Coach John Dunning, Mansfield coached 17 different All-Americans, four National Players of the Year, and four future Olympians (Logan Tom, Ogonna Nnamani, Foluke Akinradewo, Alix Klineman). The 2004 squad won the national championship, while the Cardinal advanced to the Final Four six times in 14 total NCAA Tournament appearances with Mansfield on staff.
VISION VOLLEYBALL CLUB (2000-16)
Mansfield also compiled a stellar run as a club coach with the Vision Volleyball Club with his teams earning seven Junior Olympic medals, 26 Junior Olympic All-Tournament selections, and the club producing 19 Volleyball Magazine "Fab 50" recruits.
