#25 K-State upsets #21 Colorado for fourth straight win

Manhattan, Kan. - Senior outside hitter Liz Wegner came off the bench to tally a team-high 17 kills on Saturday, as the 25th-ranked Kansas State women's volleyball posted a 3-1 upset win (27-30, 30-25, 30-26, 30-18) over 21st-ranked Colorado before 1,139 fans at Ahearn Field House.
With the win, Kansas State improves to 16-7 and 12-5 in Big 12 Conference play, while Colorado falls to 16-8 and 11-5 in league action. The win was the Wildcats' 11th in 12 matches in Ahearn Field House this season. The team is 26-2 over the last two and half seasons at home.
Kansas State edged Colorado in the statistics across the board, posting three more kills (67-64) and one more block (15-14), while hitting at a higher percentage (.229 - .159). The Wildcats dominated the serving game, posting a season-best 12 service aces compared to Buffaloes' four. The team won for just the third time this season when being outdug, as Colorado tallied seven more digs (82-75).
Wegner paced four Wildcats in double-digit kills with a team-high 17 kills to go with five digs and four blocks. Senior Lisa Mimick tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs to along with four blocks and three aces, while junior Jenny Pollard added her team-leading 12th double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Lauren Goehring turned in an all-around match with eight kills on .304 hitting with a team-high 15 digs, eight blocks and two aces. Freshman Gabby Guerre captured her ninth double-double with 48 assists and 13 digs.
Senior Sonja Russell and sophomore Monique Gerlach paced the Buffaloes with 15 kills apiece, while Russell added a double-double with a match-high 25 digs. Junior Elizabeth Gower ran an effective CU offense, as she turned in a triple-double with 14 kills, 40 assists and 13 digs.
Kansas State returns to road on Wednesday, Nov. 14, as the Wildcats travel to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor (17-8, 8-8 Big 12) at the Ferrell Center beginning at 7 p.m. The Wildcats hold an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series against the Bears after winning the first meeting of the year on Oct. 13 in a tough five-game battle in Manhattan, Kan.
