Kansas State Set to Host Track Meets

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The indoor track and field season opens this weekend for Kansas State as it hosts meets on Friday and Saturday at Ahearn Field House.
On Friday, the Wildcats will host the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon. The men's events start with the 60-meter hurdles at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 60-meter hurdles at 10:30 a.m. This is the second year the event has honored Robinson, a United States of America Track and Field official and dedicated volunteer for the sport, who died in the summer 2001.
Last year, Wildcat All-American Austra Skujyte set the women's meet record at the event tallying 4,327 total points. She also set event records in both the shot put (49-11) and long jump (19-7). The men's event was captured by Grant Dennis, with 3,780 points, who was competing unattached.
On Saturday, K-State will host an all-comers meet, drawing top athletes from around the midwest representing both small and large schools. In addition, unattached athletes will also compete. Schools expected to be represented include: Butler County, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oral Roberts, Pittsburg State, and Wichita State. The field events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m., while the track events will follow in the afternoon at 3:15 p.m.
