MANHATTAN, Kan. - Karol Rovelto cleared 6 feet, 2 inches to defeat a high-quality field and win the women's high jump Saturday to highlight the final day of the Wildcat Power Classic indoor track and field meet held at Ahearn Field House.
Rovelto, formerly Karol Damon and the wife of K-State head coach Cliff Rovelto, cleared 6-2 on her final attempt to defeat former Wildcat All-American Gwen Wentland, who is currently ranked among the top five in the nation in the women's high jump and who cleared 6-0. K-State junior Morgan High was third at 5-10.
Two-time NCAA heptathlon champion Austra Skujyte won the women's shot put at 51-3.50.
In a triathlon contested in the morning, former Wildcat decathlete Pat Pyle scored 2,248 points to win the men's competition, while Melinda Bastian of Garden City CC won the women's side. The indoor triathlon included the shot put, long jump and 200-meter dash.
Kansas State sophomore Ashleigh Halderman added more than six inches to her previous season-best to win the women's triple jump at 37-7.75, while C.J. Jamison had a season-best 48-6.75 to win the men's triple jump.
Other Wildcat winners Saturday were Breanna Eveland (11-11.75 in the women's pole vault) and Darius Draudvila (8.45 in the men's 60-meter hurdles).
Kansas State split its track and field teams this weekend, with some members also competing in the Iowa State Classic. The Wildcats have their final tuneup before the Big 12 Conference Championships next week when they host the KSU Open on Saturday.
