Wildcat Throwers Fare Well at Emporia Meet

EMPORIA, Kan. - Rebekah Green won the women's hammer and Mandi Peterson captured the women's javelin competition to lead Kansas State's throwers, who competed late Thursday at the ESU Vortex Spring Twilight track and field meet at Emporia State University.
Green won the hammer throw at 172 feet, 5 inches, hitting a regional-qualifying mark. She won the event by more than nine feet over Marie Le Jour-McDonagh, who was competing unattached.
Peterson's first-place mark in the javelin was 154-10, with her margin over unattached athlete Ashleigh Keats being more than 12 feet. Tabra Alpers, who was third for the Wildcats, just missed a regional-qualifying mark by throwing 135-10.
For the Kansas State men, Tarl Vetter, Adam Walker and Ty Kane finished 2-3-4 in the men's hammer throw. Garland Porter of Barton County CC won the hammer at 184-11, with Vetter qualifying for NCAA Regionals at 183-6.
Coby Cost was the Wildcats' top finisher in the men's discus, placing third at 152-9.Kansas State will send a number of athletes to the Arizona State Invitational on Saturday.
