Mortimer, Sproll Spark Wildcats At Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Amy Mortimer placed second in the Women's Invitational 1,500-meter run, while Erik Sproll was third in a strong field in the men's 800 as Kansas State wrapped up its performances Saturday at the Drake Relays.
Mortimer ran 4:17.56 for the Wildcats in the 1,500, finishing behind only unattached runner Colette Liss, who won in 4:16.24. Mortimer's time was six seconds faster than her previous season-best and just over a second off her career-best.
Sproll finished the 800 in 1:50.91, less than a second behind the winner, Jason Briggs of Indiana State, who was first at 1:50.31.
Wildcat freshman Kyle Lancaster was seeded in a special section of the men's high jump and finished sixth at 6-10.75.
Also on the women's side, K-State placed sixth in the 4 x 800 relay, as Nicole Grose, Shauna Burrell, Samantha Murillo and Lysaira Roman-Del Valle ran 8:54.48. Stanford won at 8:36.70.
Queeneth Evurunobi was seventh in the women's long jump at a wind-aided 19-8.75.
Kansas State travels to Lincoln, Neb., next weekend to participate in the Ward Haylett Invitational. Full results of the Drake Relays are available at www.drakerelays.org.
