LINCOLN, Neb. - Kansas State's Kyle Lancaster and Morgan High each hit career-bests to win the men's and women's high jump Saturday at the Ward Haylett Invitational track and field meet held at the Ed Weir Track Complex at the University of Nebraska.
Kansas State finished second in the women's team standings with 125 points, well behind Nebraska, which won at 205. The Wildcats were fifth in the men's team competition with 81.5 points, as the Huskers also won on the men's side with 197 points.
Lancaster cleared a career-best 7 feet, 4.25 inches to win the men's high jump and move into a tie for third place on the Wildcats' all-time list. He was five inches over his nearest competitor, Nebraska's Kyle Odvody, who cleared 6-11.50.
High went 6 feet to win the women's high jump and match her career-best. Jenny Bybee of Missouri was second at 5-10.75.
Chaytan Hill also had a breakthrough mark in the women's triple jump. Her first-place mark of 44-9.50 was 17 inches past her previous career-best and moved her into second place behind only Vanitta Kinard on K-State's all-time list. She won the triple jump by eight inches over Ineta Radevica of Nebraska.
Other Wildcat individual winners on Saturday were Ashley Stevens, who won the women's 200 at 24.02, just missing the 24.00 mark she needed to qualify for the NCAA Midwest Regionals, and Rebekah Green, who won the discus at a career-best 169-4, moving her into sixth on the Wildcats' all-time list.
Green also finished second in both the shot put (season-best 55-5.50) and the hammer (career-best 186-8). Amanda Riffel (167-6) and Tabra Alpers (165-4) also had career-bests in the hammer.
Erik Sproll won the men's 800 for the Wildcats in a career-best 1:48.97. The Wildcat sophomore moved into eighth place on the all-time list in the 800. He joined Lancaster as the lone winners on the men's side for the Wildcats.
Pat Agwu ran 21.05 to finish fifth in the men's 200 to hit a regional-qualifying mark. It was the second-fastest 200-meter time in Wildcat history, trailing only the 20.76 posted by Ray Hill at the 1989 Big Eight Championships.
Brandon Solt went 14.33 in the preliminary heats of the men's 110-meter hurdles to qualify for regionals and move into ninth on the Wildcats' all-time list. He placed fourth in the final.
Coby Cost (161-6 in the discus) and Joe Moore (9:23.84 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase) also had career-bests for K-State.
Some of K-State's individuals will return to Lincoln next Saturday for the Nebraska Twilight meet, which will be the final tuneup before the Big 12 Conference Outdoor Championships May 17 through 19 in Austin, Texas.
