The Wildcats were also bolstered by sophomore Rita Lilliom with nine kills, nine digs, three assists and one service ace. Sophomore Stacey Spiegelberg recorded her fifth career double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore libero Angie Lastra carded her eighth career match of 20 or more digs with 20. The
K-State jumped on the Bears early with a three-point run to open game one. Lastra recorded two service aces and a Werner kill for the Wildcats. The service aces by Lastra mark the 212th straight match K-State has recorded at least one ace and the 35th time in her career she has registered a service ace.
Baylor (10-10, 2-7 Big 12) withstood the opening run by the Wildcats and went on a seven-point run of their own. Baylor stretched its lead to eight at 20-12 before K-State mounted an 8-2 charge to trail 22-20. K-State used three Rezende kills and two block assists from redshirt freshman Megan Kroeker to climb back into game one. Baylor held off K-State for the second time and won the frame.
The Bears outhit the Wildcats .361 to .125 and held a six-dig advantage, 17 to 11.
Game two was a carbon copy of the first as Baylor took control with a six-point run midway through the game, to hold a 20-12 advantage. K-State strung together two separate rallies of three points apiece, but it was not enough to overtake the Bears.
Baylor continued to hold the edge in hitting percentage, .196 to .038, and digs (32 to 20).
The Bears once again held down the Wildcats midway through game three at 20-14, but K-State was able turn the tables and rally. K-State was spurred to a 16-6 run by the play of Joy Hamlin and Rezende. The pair registered two block assists and a kill apiece during the rally. Werner and junior Jamie Perkins also tallied service aces during the run.
K-State outhit Baylor .129 to .024 and held an 11-10 advantage in digs during the game.
The Wildcats held the lead throughout game four, tying with the Bears on just four occasions. After the Wildcats captured a 17-12 lead, Baylor chipped away and closed to within one at 17-16. From this point, K-State closed the stanza with a 13-4 run, punctuated by a Lastra service ace.
K-State registered its best hitting percentage of the afternoon at .308 on 17 kills. The Wildcats took control of the defensive stats as well, holding a 17-14 dig edge and a 4-3 lead in total blocks.
The Wildcats dashed to a 7-3 lead behind three Baylor attacking errors. K-State climbed on Werner’s back down the stretch, as she tallied three of K-State’s final points on kills.
