K-State Treks to Hoosier Classic

K-State will look to build off the momentum created by last weekend’s play at the Jayhawk Invitational. The Wildcats tallied 14 singles wins in 23 matches and six doubles wins in nine matches. K-State was led by sophomores Vanessa Cottin and Antea Huljev, who each notched 3-1 singles records.
“Vanessa and Antea have both had solid performances this fall,” said head coach Steve Bietau about his second year players. “I would have to say that they are both more consistent and performing at a higher level than at this time last year.”
Another bright spot from last weekend was the emergence of the three freshmen in the K-State lineup, Petra Chuda, Masha Slupska and Andrea Straznicka. Bietau is encouraged by the resiliency this group has shown since the Razorback Classic on Sept. 12-14.
“Our freshmen have done about as expected. I knew they would stumble, but learning how to pick yourself up is one of the most important things in competition. We see almost daily progress from at least one of them, sometimes more. Improving our depth was one of the major goals this year and for now I would say we are on track.”
The trio of freshmen registered a 7-4 singles record at the Jayhawk Invitational with Chuda and Slupska holding two-match winning streaks at the conclusion of the weekend.
