Fritz said she was particularly pleased with the entire effort from the team considering where the Wildcats were at the start of spring practice with the task of replacing five seniors.
“We are a much better volleyball team at the end of April than we were in January,” Fritz said. “We’re not good enough to compete at the higher level of the conference yet, but we have made significant strides. They’re going to continue to work hard and get better. It has really been a group effort.”
The Wildcats lose five seniors from last year’s squad that all played key roles on the court both statistically and emotionally. Taking the reins will not be a job handed to one player, Fritz said, but rather all the players are coming together to step up and keep K-State volleyball among the top teams in the nation.
“This is a cohesive group,” Fritz said. “I like the way they work, and I really like the fact that they have fun playing volleyball.”
K-State will have one more week of spring practices but have completed its spring scrimmage and tournament schedule. The Wildcats will then break for the remainder of the semester before reporting for training camp this summer to prepare for the 2009 season. K-State will open at the AVCA/Runza Showcase against
