Gonzalez Vaults to Regional Mark
Apr 24, 2009 | Track & Field
Gonzalez improved upon her season’s best mark by six inches posting her first regional qualifying mark of the year. Gonzalez cleared 12-07.50 to finish ninth. The height matches her performance at last year’s Drake Relays when Gonzalez finished second.
Sprinters Mike Myer and Jason Coniglio both failed to reach the finals in the 100 meters. Coniglio finished in 10.90 seconds to finish 15th overall. Myer finished second in his heat but was not fast enough to advance either with his time of 10.93 seconds. The four winners of their heats automatically advanced along with the next four fastest times.
Denise Baker finished third in her heat in the women’s 100 meter hurdles clocking in at 14.98 seconds. She did not qualify for the finals on Saturday and her time put her 17th overall in the preliminary heats. Boglarka Bozzay ran the 800 meters in 2:14.99 to finish 10th in the university/college division final.
To close the afternoon for the Wildcats the tandem of Gus Vazquez-Milan, Jason Collett, Jacob Davies and Jack Sachse ran in the 4x400 relay. The team’s time of 3:26.22 was not enough to advance to the finals on Saturday.
The 100th Drake Relays will conclude on Saturday with high jumper Scott Sellers competing in the special invitational high jump. He will be taking on some of the top athletes in his event in the nation and will be the only current collegiate student-athlete competing.
