MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's track and field team is ranked among the top in the nation to start the season, checking in at No. 20 in the USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings. With the return of seniors Moritz Cleve and Jeffrey Julmis combined with sophomore high jumper Erik Kynard listed in the Top 10 in their respective events K-State is among seven Big 12 Conference teams ranked in the Top 25.
In addition to the trio of Cleve, Julmis and Kynard, junior Mantas Silkauskas ranks 12th in the heptathlon. Silkauskas finished fifth at the Big 12 Championship a year ago and 14th at the NCAA Championship.
The Wildcats welcome a number of other athletes with a good amount of experience back to the team this season that could contribute to its success. Head Coach Cliff Rovelto has praised the newcomers to this year's squad as well and believes the team has the potential to move up in the Big 12 and again make its presence felt on a national scope.
K-State returns to action on January 15 when the Wildcats host the KSU Invitational at Ahearn Field House. Field events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. in a team scored dual meet with Oklahoma State, Tulsa, UMKC and Fort Hays State competing.
