Big 12 Releases 2017 Conference Schedule
Dec 20, 2016 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The
Kansas State volleyball team will open its 2017 Big 12 schedule at Oklahoma on
Wednesday, September 20 before beginning its home campaign against in-state
rival Kansas on Saturday, September 23, as the league office announced K-State’s
complete 16-match conference slate Tuesday.
The Wildcats open their conference schedule on
the road for three of their first four matches, including two trips to the
state of Texas to take on 2016 national runner-up Texas and TCU, as the Cats
will have five road matches in the first half of conference play.
K-State will then return home to take on Texas
Tech on Saturday, October 7 before heading to Ames, Iowa, to face the Cyclones
of Iowa State on Wednesday, October 11. The Cats finish off the first half of the
conference schedule at home vs. Baylor (October 14) and at West Virginia
(October 21).
The Wildcats kick off the second half with a
home match against the Cyclones on Wednesday, October 25 before heading to
Lubbock for a match with Texas Tech on Saturday, October 28.
During the month of November, Wildcats will
play five of their six matches in the state of Kansas, four of which will be
held at Ahearn Field House, beginning with the Texas Longhorns House on
Wednesday, November 1 before heading down I-70 to face 2016 Big 12 champion
Kansas on November 8.
K-State will finish the regular season with three
out of four matches at home as TCU (November 11), Oklahoma (November 18) and
West Virginia (November 22) make the trip to Manhattan. After a trip to Baylor
on November 15, the OU and WVU matches mark the only consecutive home league
matches on the schedule.
The Cats will have a bye on the final Saturday
of the regular season and will play eight Wednesday matches and eight Saturday
matches.
K-State and the other eight Big 12 volleyball squads compete in a
double-round robin schedule, playing each conference opponent twice during the
regular season. The Big 12 is currently the only Power Five conference in which
each squad faces its conference opponents twice during the year – once at home
and once on the road.
K-State’s complete schedule, including non-conference opponents and match times, will be released in the spring.
K-State (21-10, 9-7 Big 12) finished its 2016
campaign with its 17th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament
and advanced to the second round of the postseason for the first time since
2011. The Wildcats concluded the year in a fourth-place tie in the Big 12
standings for the second straight season.
