
Wildcats Prepped for ITA Regional Championships in Lawrence

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Six members of the Kansas State women's tennis team are set to compete at the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships presented by Oracle, hosted by the University of Kansas from October 19-23 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center and Sports Pavilion Lawrence in Lawrence, Kansas.
Twenty-seven schools from across the Central Region will send 128 singles athletes along with 64 doubles teams, all vying for a spot in the ITA National Championships.
Senior Carolina Costamagna, sophomore Ines Mesquita and freshmen Margot Decker, Maria Linares, Rosanna Maffei and Anna Turco will be making the trip to Lawrence from head coach Danielle Steinberg's squad.
The tournament kicks off Thursday, October 19 with doubles action beginning at 9 a.m. CT. The Wildcat tandems of Decker and Turco along with Costamagna and Linares will all start at 9 a.m. Maffei and Mesquita, who are paired together, will play their first match at 10 a.m. All three doubles teams will be playing together for the first time this season.
In the singles draw, Turco will face off with Ceijena Cornelius from Oral Roberta at 11:30 a.m. The Mondovi, Italy, native is 5-1 in her young Wildcat career.
The squad's lone senior, Costamagna will play at 12:30 p.m., against Iowa's Danielle Bauers. The Argentinian is 4-2 in the fall season.
Decker and Linares both get their singles matches underway at 1:30 p.m., as Decker squares off with Nebraska's Katerina Matysova and Linares meets Mehvish Safdar of Minnesota. Linares is coming off a singles title at the Wake Forest Invitational in her last appearance.
Later in the afternoon, Maffei and Mesquita will compete at 2 p.m. Maffei is set to face Agne Cepelyte from Arkansas while Mesquita, who also earned a singles title at the Wake Forest Invitational, will play South East Missouri State's Kseniya Zonova.
