
Cats Perfect on Opening Day of ITA Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The K-State women's tennis team finished its first day with an unscathed record in singles and doubles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships presented by Oracle, at the University of Kansas at the Jayhawk Tennis Center and Sports Pavilion.
K-State finished 6-0 on the day in singles play in the opening round and will begin play in the Round of 64 tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Ines Mesquita defeated Southeast Missouri State's Kseniya Zonova, 6-2, 6-4. Mesquita moves to 7-0 in her sophomore campaign, and will face AnneMarie Emme of Missouri tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
Anna Turco defeated Oral Roberts' Ceijena Cornelius, 6-2, 6-2. Turco has continued to build on her strong start in singles, moving to 6-1 this season, and she will take on Nebraska's Jeannie Lozowski tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Maria Linares beat Mehvish Safdar of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-3. Linares improves to 4-1 this season, and will take on Kansas' Despoina Vogasari tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Carolina Costamagna overtook Danielle Bauers of Iowa 6-4, 6-2. Costamagna improves to 5-2 this season and will oppose Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva of Wichita State tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Rosanna Maffei topped Agne Cepelyte of Arkansas 6-4, 6-3. Maffei moves to 4-2 this season in singles play and will face Alexandrina Chinikova of Tulsa tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Margot Decker defeated Katerina Matysova of Nebraska 6-1, 6-0. Decker will take on Montana Crawford of Iowa tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
The Cats continued their dominant play in doubles this season, finishing 3-0 as a team on the day, and will begin play doubles at 9 a.m. All three doubles duos played together for the first time this season.
Decker and Turco defeated Danielle Burich and Danielle Bauers of Iowa, 8-1. The tandem will face UMKC's Aliona Ladutska and Grace Ball at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Costamagna and Linares overtook Nebraska's M'Balia Bangoura and Emily Rees, 8-2. The duo will take on Tutum Rice and Jackie Carr of Arkansas.
Maffei and Mesquita topped Oleksandra Doroshenko and Isabella Krupa of Southeast Missouri State, 8-4. The pair will take on Minnesota's pairing of Hart and Ryba tomorrow at 9 a.m.
