
K-State Stays Unbeaten in Doubles at Wake Forest Invite

Four Wildcats have shot at first place finish in bracket play on Sunday
WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Maria Linares and Ines Mesquita each gave themselves a shot to take home a singles and doubles first-place finish at the Wake Forest Invite at the Wake Forest Tennis Center Saturday.
Linares and Mesquita defeated James Madison's Jona Roka and Lea Owens, 8-1. The tandem improves to 2-0 this season, and will play Davidson's Sexton and Song for a chance at first place in the C doubles bracket.
Mesquita overtook Suzanne Zenoni of Elon, 6-1, 6-2. The Portuguese sophomore is now 5-0 this season in singles play, and will face Wake Forest's Anna Ulyashchenko for a shot at first place in the B1 singles bracket.
Linares topped Appalachian State's Teodora Sevo in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. The Venezuelan native will face Louisville's Raven Neely for a shot at first place in the B1 singles bracket.
Rosanna Maffei and Anna Turco also gave themselves a chance at a first place finish in the B doubles bracket. The duo defeated Davidson's Megan Scholvinck and Alexa Abele, 8-4, and will face Louisville's Neely and Rodriguez Sunday.
The Cats are now 8-0 in doubles play and 7-6 in singles play this weekend.
After losing her unblemished record, Turco bounced back Saturday with a victory over Emily Dunbar of Richmond. Turco will face Madison Silver of Marshall with a shot at fifth place in the A1 singles bracket.
Maffei, Carolina Costamagna, and Meghan King each dropped their second round matches Saturday.
Maffei was defeated by Liberty's Maria Medina Saturday, 4-6, 4-6. The freshman from Italy will battle for a shot at third place in the A2 singles bracket against Virginia Tech's Nika Kozar.
It took three sets for Costamagna to be overtaken by Louisville's Raven Neely, 6-7, 7-5, 0-6. The lone senior for the Wildcats will aim to take third place in the B2 singles bracket on Sunday against Appalachian State's Teodora Sevo.
King was beaten in straight sets by Sandra Anglesjo of Appalachian State, 0-6, 2-6, but earned a walkover victory over Maria Gomez of Eastern Carolina, earning seventh place.
