Flowers Earns Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After a league-best 16 blocks during the week, K-State middle blocker Macy Flowers was crowned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Flowers, a native of Chanute, Kansas, earns the first Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career and second weekly award of her career (co-rookie in 2015). The 6-foot-3 junior collects K-State's second weekly recognition this season, joining redshirt freshman Peyton Williams' Freshman of the Week nod on August 28.
Flowers posted a match-high seven blocks in the Wildcats' sweep of Oklahoma on Saturday on the heels of a nine-block performance at No. 19 Baylor last Wednesday. Her 16 total stuff blocks were five more than the next-highest total and her 2.29 blocks per set were nearly a half-block higher than second place.
Over the last six matches, she has led or tied for the team lead in blocks, equaling the longest such streak of her career. In that six-match span, Flowers has had a hand in 43 of K-State's 67 total blocks and is averaging 1.68 blocks per set.
For the season, Flowers paces the Cats with her 1.23 blocks a set and is tied with Williams for the team lead with 86 total blocks. She ranks second in the Big 12 with 1.37 blocks per set in conference-only matches.
The award marks K-State's first weekly defensive distinction since Kersten Kober was named Defensive Player of the Week on October 5, 2015.
K-State (10-18, 3-12 Big 12) concludes its regular-season schedule on Wednesday night against West Virginia at 7 p.m., where it will honor senior Bryna Vogel is a post-match ceremony. The match will be televised on COX Channel Kansas and stream live and free on K-StateHD.TV. Fans can also listen to Rob Voelker call the action on KMAN 93.3 FM, 1350 AM and streaming live on K-StateSports.com.
