Wildcats’ Balanced Attack Hands No. 21 Baylor 3-1 Loss

Nov 12, 2025 | Volleyball

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State recorded their first home victory over Baylor since 2016, as the Wildcats handed the 21st-ranked Bears a 3-1 loss Wednesday night at Morgan Family Arena.

K-State (15-7, 8-6 Big 12), which is now receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll, notched its fourth victory – and second straight – over a nationally ranked opponent, moving to 4-4 overall this season against Top 25 teams. With the win, K-State becomes one of just four Big 12 teams to record four or more victories over Top 25 opponents this season (No. 8 Arizona State, 7; No. 16 TCU, 6; No. 13 Kansas, 4; Kansas State 4).

The victory snapped a seven-match home skid against Baylor and marked the Wildcats' first win over the Bears in Manhattan since October 29, 2016.

The Wildcats' defense limited Baylor (14-9, 9-6 Big 12) to a .188 team hitting percentage, fueled by a season-high 13 blocks and 67 digs. Symone Sims, a native of Frisco, Texas, anchored the back line with a match-high 19 digs – her 15th match leading in the category – while middle blocker Jordyn Williams led at the net with seven blocks followed by Schmidt with five.

Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week Shaylee Myers knocked down a team-high 21 kills to go along with 13 digs to complete her fifth double-double of the year. With her 21 kills, the Lincoln, Nebraska, product moved into a tie for third in school history with her 10th 20-kill match of the year, matching K-State Hall of Famer and All-American Liz Wegner-Busch, who registered 10 in 1999 and 2000. Myers is now 72 kills shy of reaching her 1,000th career kill.

Aniya Clinton recorded her 15th match of the year in double figures with 14 kills. Senior setter Ava LeGrand orchestrated an offense that hit .235 with 43 assists, while collecting 16 digs for her 12th double-double of the year, along with a career-high six blocks.

For Baylor, Ksenia Rakhmanchik, the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, led all players with 23 kills. Harley Kreck tallied the only double-double for the Bears with 39 assists and a team-high 13 digs.

FROM THE CATS
JASON MANSFIELD, K-STATE HEAD COACH
Overall Statement…
"I'm really proud of how we battled, especially the second set. We were down 23-20, found a way to tie it up, and even though we lost a close set, we were in the exact same situation in the third – down 23-20 – and this time we tied it and won. It shows just a lot of character and grit in situations that are tough. That's a very good, tough team to stop defensively, and I thought we just found ways to kind of win that third set.

I told them before the fourth set that I felt like we were the better team, and that we still hadn't played our best. I love that we did that in the fourth set and closed it out. There were a lot of great individual performances. Shaylee [Myers] started slow because they're such a strong defensive team, but to have 21 kills and hit .314 against that defense is really impressive. And to have 13 digs as well. It starts with Ava [LeGrand], 43 assists, 16 digs, six blocks, and an ace. She's special, and she's somebody that certainly makes our team go."

On getting the first win over Baylor at home since 2016…
"It means a lot. Baylor is a phenomenal program that's in the Top 25 every year. For us, we just believe that we can compete with anyone. I think that the way we won this match says a lot about who we are and how we can play. I love that I went into the locker room and they're not spraying me with water bottles because we feel like we should win matches like this. To have the program get to a place like that is pretty special, where they believe that we should beat really good teams in Morgan Family Arena. So yeah, I'm really proud of them."
