RENO, Nev. – Highlighted by a season-high 14 blocks and a match-high 18 kills from freshman Addison Massey, K-State topped Nevada in four sets, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15, Sunday afternoon at Virginia Street Gym.

After dropping the first set – the first opening-set loss of the season – the Wildcats rallied to secure their sixth consecutive victory, marking the program's best start to a season since 2013. With the loss, Nevada fell to 0-7.

K-State's (6-0) 14 blocks is the highest block production since October 5, 2024, vs. Iowa State. Seven Wildcats contributed a block led by a match-leading five from Reese Resmer. The team hit at a .321 clip with 54 kills, with Massey and Skylar Brady combining for 31. Massey has led the team in kills in all six matches this season.

Overall statement…
"I thought Emerson [Van Lannen] and Lauren [Latham] did a really good job setting our offense, making so many quality sets and spreading things around. Addison [Massey] and Skylar [Brady] were both exceptional, taking so many great swings and making aggressive choices. Although we struggled to slow them down in the first set, I loved how we continued to improve defensively as the match went on, especially with our block. Reese [Resmer] led the way at the net and also gave us a lot of offense with eight kills, and we needed every one of them."

On the team's 6-0 season start…
"I'm really proud of our start. We are learning and growing every week, with a better understanding of how we need to play the game and what we need to do to beat each opponent. There has been a lot of maturity in the way we've prepared for each team, and we've executed extremely well to get us to a 6-0 start. Now we just need to keep getting better every day and continue to do it together. Excited to get back in the gym this week and keep getting better."

Set 1 – Nevada 25, K-State 21

After back-and-forth action, Nevada broke away with a six-point lead, 11-5, to force a timeout from K-State.
The Wildcats were hitting at -.273 clip at the time of the first timeout with two kills and five attack errors.
Trailing 23-17, K-State rallied behind a 4-1 scoring run but was unable to overcome the deficit, dropping its first opening set of the season.
K-State was limited to a .179 hitting percentage (12 kills, 7 errors, 28 attempts) in Set 1, while Nevada hit .314 (17 kills, 6 errors, 35 swings).

Set 2 – K-State 25, Nevada 20

Tied 5-5, Nevada erupted for a 6-2 run to take its second lead of the set.
Behind kills from Avery Stones and Addison Massey, K-State brought the set within three, 11-8, until back-to-back kills from Reese Resmer made it a 12-10 score.
K-State tied the set for the sixth time following the media timeout with two straight kills from middle blocker Cadence Lundgren, before taking the lead with kills by Massey and Lauren Latham, 17-15.
The Wildcats put the set away with an 8-4 closing run.
K-State put down 16 kills in Set 2 with seven errors on 30 swings, while the defense totaled 11 digs and five blocks to hold Nevada to a .148 hitting percentage (10 kills, 6 errors, 27 attempts).

Set 3 – K-State 25, Nevada 21

Back-to-back kills from Massey handed K-State a 9-6 lead in Set 3.
The Wildcats extended their advantage with a 4-2 scoring run to push ahead, 21-18, forcing a Wolfpack timeout.
A kill by Skylar Brady and Emerson Van Lannen helped secure the set victory.
K-State produced a .438 hitting percentage behind 15 kills on 32 swings with just one attack error.

Set 4 – K-State 25, Nevada 15

Headlined by five strong serves from Caleigh Ponn, K-State scored seven of eight points to take a 12-6 lead.
The Wildcats took advantage of a service and attack error to stretch out to an 18-11 advantage, before putting the set away with a 7-2 closing run.
Set 4 featured five tie scores and three lead changes.

INSIDE THE BOX

K-State beat Nevada in four sets – 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.
The Cats hit .321 with 54 kills on 112 swings and 18 errors, while the Wolf Pack produced a .250 hitting percentage (53 kills, 22 errors, 124 attempts).
Nine players contributed a kill for K-State, led by a match-high 18 from Massey (.577).
Brady added 13 kills, eight digs and three blocks.
Resmer produced a season-high five blocks (2 solo, 3 assists), as seven players recorded a block.
Brady and Emerson Van Lannen led with eight digs a piece, while Van Lannen dished out 26 assists and an ace.
The team out-blocked Nevada, 14-8, and held a 41-39 edge in dig production.
Paige Thies led Nevada with 17 kills (.316), followed by Malia Pilimai with 12.

TEAM NOTES

K-State leads the all-time series 2-0 against Nevada, after sweeping the series opener in 2025 at home.
The team's 6-0 start marks the best program start since 2013 (7-0), while it is the longest winning streak since 2021 (8-0).
Under Mansfield, K-State is 22-12 in nonconference matches, including a 9-1 record over the last 10 contests.
K-State is now 5-1 in Set 1, after dropping their first opening-set of the season.
The team recorded a season-high 14 blocks Sunday, marking the first match with 14 or more since October 5, 2024 (21 vs. Iowa State).

PLAYER NOTES

Massey has turned in five 10-kill performances in six matches this season, leading the team in the category in each match.
Resmer is the first Wildcat to produce a five-block match in 2026, and first freshman to do so since Cadence Lundgren on September 12, 2025 (6 vs. Northern Colorado).

K-State will head to Nebraska to face No. 15 Creighton (5-4) at D.J. Sokol Arena on September 18, before taking on Omaha (5-3) on September 19. Friday's match against the Bluejays will be nationally televised on ESPN2, slated for a 7 p.m. CT first serve, while Saturday's match against the Mavericks is scheduled for 3 p.m.
