MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off the fifth NCAA Regional in school history, the 2017-18 Kansas State women's golf team begins its quest for a second-straight postseason berth in Woodbury, Minnesota, where the Wildcats will compete in the 2017 Minnesota Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-72, 6,248-yard Prestwick Golf Club.
K-State, competing in the tournament for the second-consecutive year, will have five members competing in the opening event with Reid Isaac, Niamh McSherry, Ella Adams, Connie Jaffrey and Chloe Weir making up the scoring lineup.
"We like this team a lot," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I expect them to go out there and give their best, keep their chin up and play hard. I know what they are capable of. We saw some great golf in our qualifying tournament."
Although the Wildcats return two of their top three golfers in terms of stroke average, K-State will look for freshmen to contribute right out of the gate. Isaac, McSherry and Adams will all make their K-State debut on Monday.
K-State has four freshmen on the roster, the most since the 1995-96 season in Knight's first year at the helm of the Wildcats.
Jaffrey, a senior, is looking to end her K-State career on a high note after leading the Wildcats to an NCAA Regional appearance as a junior. She paced the team in stroke average a year ago at 74.57 while recording three top-20 finishes, including a win at the Greenville Regional Preview.
Junior Chloe Weir was third on the team last year with a 75.11 stroke average and tied for second on the team with seven rounds even or under par. The Belfast, Northern Ireland, native recorded five top-20 finishes as a sophomore.
The Wildcats will be joined in the Minnesota Invitational by 13 other teams, which includes Minnesota, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Kansas, BYU, East Carolina, Georgia, USC, Virginia Tech, North Texas, Louisville, Notre Dame, and last year's runner-up, Purdue.
