K-State, Oklahoma Set to Clash Wednesday

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball seeks its third straight win as it welcomes the Oklahoma Sooners to Ahearn Field House Wednesday at 7 p.m., opening the second half of the Big 12 schedule.

K-State (12-7, 2-6 Big 12) picked up back-to-back victories over ranked opponents last week, upending then-No. 22 KU in four sets before a road sweep at then-24th-ranked Baylor Saturday. Oklahoma (12-8, 4-4 Big 12) claimed a straight-set victory over the Wildcats earlier this season in Norman and enter Wednesday having won three of its last four matches.

The matchup with the Sooners marks K-State's annual Cats for the Cure match for breast cancer awareness. Fans can purchase a special Wednesday Wildcat 4-Pack ticket package, which includes four tickets and four $10 concession vouchers for just $38.

K-STATE AT A GLANCE
  • K-State (12-7, 2-6 Big 12) is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 after a 2-0 week in which the Wildcats knocked off top-25 opponents in then-22nd-ranked KU and No. 24 Baylor.
  • The Cats knocked off back-to-back ranked opponents for the first time since 2012, including their first road sweep of a ranked foe since 2002.
  • K-State picked up its first win in Waco since 2014 and its first straight-set victory at the Ferrell Center since 2007.
  • Redshirt freshman Brooke Heyne led the Cats offense with her career-best 15 kills on her way to being named Big 12 Rookie of the Week.
  • Along with Heyne, Peyton Williams (11), Kylee Zumach (11) and Gloria Mutiri (10) all reached double-digit kills Saturday.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA
  • Oklahoma (12-8, 4-4 Big 12), who claimed the season's first meeting in straight sets in Norman, has won three of its last four matches.
  • Alyssa Enneking leads the Sooners with 4.35 kills per set, good for third in the Big 12.
  • Libero Keyton Kinley was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week Monday and continues to pace the league with her 4.82 digs per set.
  • In conference-only matches, OU is limiting its opponents to a .198 hitting percentage - second-best in the conference.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
  • Oklahoma leads the all-time series 54-34-1, after a straight-set victory over the Cats earlier this season in Norman.
  • The Sooners' win to open league play snapped a streak of six straight matches won by K-State.

  • K-State redshirt sophomore Peyton Williams is riding a streak of four straight matches with at least 10 kills - the longest streak of her career.
  • Prior to the Sept. 29 match vs. TCU, Williams had yet to produce a match in double-digit kills.
  • Against Baylor Saturday, the Topeka product turned in a season-best .550 hitting percentage (11k-0e-20ta).
  • The 6-foot-4 middle blocker leads the team with five matches hitting .400 or better.
 
THE GLO SHOW
  • Through the first half of Big 12 play, K-State freshman Gloria Mutiri leads the Cats with 95 kills and 3.06 kills per set in conference-only matches while hitting .261.
  • The Sand Springs, Oklahoma, product has reached double-digit kills in seven of eight conference matches this year and has led the team in kills in four of eight league matches.
  • Mutiri ranks in the Big 12's top 10 in kills per set in league-only matches (10th).
 
HONOR ROLL
  • Setter Sarah Dixon earned her second Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week nod on Monday after leading the Cats to a 2-0 week.
