K-State Places 13 on Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Teams

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State men's and women's cross country teams placed 13 individuals on the Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country team, the league office announced on Wednesday, including six representatives on the men's team and seven on the women's team.
On the men's team, senior Joe Gorthy, redshirt junior Kurt Loevenstein, redshirt sophomore Travis Hodge and redshirt freshmen Ethan Powell and Jackson Schroeder earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, while redshirt freshman Dylan Brenneman earned Second Team honors.
The K-State women were represented by seven individuals with Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, including senior Emma Wren, juniors Sydney Collins and Anna Keeley, sophomores Kassidy Johnson, Cara Melgares and Victoria Robinson and redshirt freshman Cayli Hume.
In addition to earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, Powell, Hume, Johnson and Melgares were nominated with a 4.0 GPA, representing four of 24 individuals in the Big 12 to earn the honor.
Of the 13 K-State selections, Gorthy and Wren earned their third Academic All-Big 12 selection of their career, while three individuals earned their second selection and eight individuals earned their first selection.
The Big 12 honored a total of 148 selections, including 54 individuals on the men's team and 94 on the women's team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
