
K-State Heads to Boulder to Face Buffaloes

Cats look to win fourth straight match
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State women's tennis team will matchup with an undefeated opponent for the second straight match as it faces the Buffaloes of Colorado at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center on Sunday at noon (CT).
The Cats (4-1) handed Washington State its first team loss of the season after overcoming a 3-1 deficit, grabbing three consecutive singles wins to propel the team to a 4-3 victory.
With a win against K-State, the Buffs (5-0) could have their second-best start in program history. Colorado boasts the nation's 106th-ranked singles player, Linda Huang, who opens her junior year 5-0 in dual match play.
K-State is 14-25 overall against its former Big 12 opponent and 6-9 in Boulder. The Cats open its spring season 18-10 in singles play.
Sophomore Ines Mesquita came back in her last match and won in three sets to seal K-State's win over Washington State. The No. 5 singles player has a dual match record of 4-0, and is 14-3 this season overall. The product of Portugal also has a 4-1 record in doubles play.
Carolina Costamagna began Sunday's comeback with a straight-set victory. The Argentinian senior is 3-2 in singles in spring play.
Anna Turco looks to continue to build on her strong start to her freshman season. The native of Italy picked up her first win of the spring season defeating Melisa Ates of Washington State, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3. After being blanked in the first set, the Italian native won seven straight, and 12 of 17, games to secure the point.
K-State opens doubles play 9-3 in the spring season, including winning the doubles point in four of its first five matches.
At No. 1 doubles, freshman Margot Decker and Costamagna moved to 3-1 this season after defeating Washington State's Barbora Michalkova and Melisa Ates, 6-3.
Playing No. 3 doubles, freshmen Rosanna Maffei and Turco won their first match of the dual season as they topped Washington State's Michaela Bayerlova and Aneta Miksovska, 6-2.
Freshman Maria Linares and Mesquita dropped their first match of the dual season, falling to Guzal Yusupova and Tiffany Mylonas, 0-6. The tandem, representing at No. 2 doubles position, is 4-1 in the spring season.
After facing Colorado, the Cats will head home to play a doubleheader against Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. and Akron at 4 p.m. at the Body First Indoor Tennis Center on Friday, February 23.
