No. 31 K-State’s Winning Streak Snapped by Georgia State

Wildcats finish 2-4 in singles matches
DALLAS – The K-State women's tennis team saw its four-match win streak come to an end on Saturday in a 4-3 loss to the Georgia State Panthers at the SMU Tennis Courts.
K-State (9-3) was coming off a 5-2 win over SMU on Friday in the middle of a stretch of winning eight matches in nine attempts before meeting the Panthers.
Georgia State (7-7) snapped its three-match losing streak Saturday against the Wildcats, claiming the first match in school history between the teams.
K-State claimed the doubles point for the ninth time in 12 matches this season, notching a 1-0 lead. The Cats doubles teams improve to 21-11 in the spring season.
The duo of Ines Mesquita and Anna Turco went unopposed in its doubles matchup, and picked up the first win for the Cats from the No. 3 position. Mesquita and Turco improve to 3-1 this season.
K-State claimed the point behind a 6-2 win from Carolina Costamagna and Margot Decker, defeating Lara Vovk and Elizabet Danailova of the Panthers. The pairing has totaled eight wins in the spring season from the No. 1 doubles position.
At No. 2, Maria Linares and Rosanna Maffei led the Panthers' Kristin Rehse and Damira Muminovic, 5-2, before the point was clinched.
K-State picked up a win at No. 3 and went unopposed at the sixth position for a 2-4 mark in singles play against Georgia State. The Cats are now 41-25 (.621) in spring singles play.
The Cats proceeded to lose four of the final five singles matches.
Decker was defeated in straight sets by Kristin Rehse, 1-6, 4-6, moving the match to 2-1 in favor for K-State. At the No. 1 position, the French native sees her record dip to 5-6 in singles play.
Playing just her third match from the No. 2 position this season, Costamagna lost to the Panthers' Elizabet Danailova, 5-7, 3-6, tying the match at 2-2. The senior product of Cordoba, Argentina, now is 6-5 in the spring.
Turco, a freshman, fought her way to a three-set victory over the Panthers' Daniela Ramirez, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Italian product gave the Cats a 3-2 lead and saw her first action at the No. 3 singles spot. Turco has won four of her five matches in the spring and improves to 11-4 this season.
Georgia State tied the match at 3-3 as Lara Vovk of Georgia State defeated K-State's transfer-senior Carolina Lewis, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6. Playing her first match play in nearly three weeks, the Hilton Head, South Carolina, native moves to 2-3 in her career at K-State.
The Panthers notched its win over K-State from the No. 4 position. Mesquita was outlasted in three sets by Damira Muminovic, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6. The sophomore drops to 17-7 this season and has lost back-to-back matches.
K-State will head home next week to open Big 12 play vs. Baylor at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.
