K-State Continues Homestand Tuesday vs. Creighton

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State, fresh off its third consecutive series win, sets its sights on a midweek showdown against Creighton Tuesday night, with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium.

The Wildcats (10-5) took two of three games from Mercer as have won 10 of their last 12 games overall.

The matchup with the Bluejays will broadcast on Cox Channel Kansas and will stream free at K-StateHD.TV.  Live audio will also stream at k-statesports.com and fans in the Manhattan area can listen to action on KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM).

A LOOK AT K-STATE
Kansas State won its third consecutive weekend series with a 13-6 victory Sunday against the Mercer Bears ... Mercer, the Southern Conference's preseason favorite, had won eight of nine before the weekend set in Manhattan ... In Friday's 12-3 series-opening win over the Bears, Drew Mount hit two grand slams and drove in eight runs while starter Kasey Ford struck out a career-high 10 batters over seven innings ... Mount became the first Wildcat to hit two grand slams in a game since 1994 and was the first to post an eight-RBI game since 2006 ... Ford has three wins and three quality outings in his last three starts ... In Sunday's rubber match, Will Brennan turned in his second straight four-hit game in helping clinch the series ... Jared Marolf relieved starter Justin Heskett and finished the game's final 5 2/3 innings to earn the win.
 
A LOOK AT CREIGHTON
Creighton (8-5) visits Manhattan having won three of its last four games, including a road series win at Minnesota over the weekend ... The Bluejays sought a series sweep of the Gophers, but fell 15-1 Sunday ... CU has played all 13 games this season away from home ... Three players hit over .300 for Creighton, paced by junior catcher Michael Emodi and his .396 average to go with seven homers and 25 RBI ... Emodi leads his conference in homers and runs batted in ... CU is second in the Big East in scoring (7.3 runs/game).
 
A LOOK AT THE SERIES
K-State and Creighton will meet for the 93rd time, dating back to 1903 ... The Wildcats own a 51-40-1 edge in the series and the teams have met in 17 of the last 19 seasons, dating back to 2000 ... The junior-college transfer matches the most weekly honors in a single season with three through the season's first four weeks ... Mount was also recognized by Collegiate Baseball by being named one of 10 National Players of the Week by the publication ... Brennan earns his first Player of the Week award from the league after earning Newcomer of the Week twice last season as part of his freshman all-America campaign.
 
FRIENDLY CONFINES OF TOINTON
K-State won its first four home games for the sixth straight season as the Cats have won six of their first seven games at home this season ... In K-State's 6-1 home start this season, it boasts a slash line of .356/.451/.576 with eight home runs and 33 extra-base hits ... K-State is averaging 9.7 runs per game and 12.7 hits per game at Tointon Family Stadium in 2018 ... In 2017, K-State posted a 15-5 (.750) home nonconference mark.

K-State has reached double-digit hits in 10 of its last 11 games, including a stretch of eight consecutive such games, its longest streak under 15th-year head coach Brad Hill ... MOUNT CRUSHMORE
For the third consecutive week, K-State junior-transfer Drew Mount took home Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday ... He is the first player in Big 12 history to earn the distinction in three consecutive weeks since the award's inception in 2011 ... Mount became the first Wildcat to hit two grand slams in one game since 1994 and he is just the third player in Big 12 history to accomplish the feat - and the first since 1998 ... In K-State's 3-1 week, he put up 13 RBI to up his season total to 29, which leads not only the Big 12 but the country, as of Monday ... He leads the Big 12 in homers (7), RBI (29), slugging (.870), total bases (47) and stolen bases (12) ... His home run total is seventh-highest in the NCAA while his 21 steals is third-best nationally.
 
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP
K-State's leadoff hitter Will Brennan has shown no signs of slowing down after his freshman all-American campaign a year ago ... He leads the Big 12, and tied for the nation's lead, with 33 base hits ... Brennan's .493 season average places him atop the conference charts and fifth in the nation ... The sophomore left fielder ended 2017 on a 23-game on-base streak and has reached base safely in all 15 games this year, extending his career-long on-base streak to 38 games ... The 38-game on-base streak is tied with Jacksonville State's Taylor Hawthorne for longest active streak in the nation ... In 67 at-bats, Brennan has struck out just three times, making him the most difficult hitter to strike out in the conference ... Last season, Brennan led the conference in the category, going 15.3 at-bats per strikeout.
 
SPEED KILLS
Through the season's first 15 games, K-State has swiped 39 bases on 42 attempts to rank No. 7 in the nation and first in the Big 12 - 16 more than Texas who is second with 23 steals ...
