Jaffrey Finishes Storied K-State Career
May 09, 2018 | Women's Golf
MADISON, Wis. – Kansas State senior women's golfer Connie Jaffrey carded a 5-over par 77 on Wednesday during the final round of her career at the 2018 NCAA Madison Regional held at University Ridge Golf Course.
Jaffrey finished the tournament at 8-over par 224, finishing in a tie for 57th place. During the final round Jaffrey shot 3-over par on the front nine with a birdie on No. 4 prior to a 3-over par back nine with a birdie on No. 12.
"Connie was not as sharp around the greens as she usually is," head coach Kristi Knight said. "She was forced to alter her warm up and post-round practice this week. That may have contributed to the struggles around the green.
"I know she was disappointed in her scores the last two days," Knight continued. "In time, she will appreciate what she was able to accomplish. At 3:30 a.m., on Monday morning it did not look good for her to even tee off. She played her heart out each round."
The Kilwinning, Scotland native, will go down in the record book as one of the greatest women's golfers to ever wear the purple and white. She finished her senior year with the best annual stroke average in school history (72.85), while her career mark of 74.13 was also first. Jaffrey also concluded her four-year run ranked second in career wins (4), top-five (9) and top-10 (15) finishes, while also tying for fourth in career rounds played (122) and ranking eighth in career tournaments (42).
"Connie has been a great player and good person for K-State women's golf," Knight added.
Duke won the regional title by carding a 14-under par 850, topping second-place Virginia by nine strokes. The Blue Devils and Cavaliers will advance the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma, along with USC, Arizona State, Ohio State and Northwestern.
Nicole Schroeder of Oregon State took home the individual title by carding an impressive 10-under par 206. She will advance to Nationals as an individual along with Wisconsin's Gabby Curtis and Indiana's Erin Harper.
