K-State Looking Forward to Start of a New Campaign
Sep 14, 2018 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's golf team kicks off its fall slate this Sunday through Tuesday in the 2018 Golfweek Conference Challenge at the par-72, 7,112-yard Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The three-day tournament will consist of a 9:30 a.m., start on Sunday and Monday, and a 9 a.m., shotgun start on Tuesday, with 18 holes being played each day.
Kansas State will be led into the fall season by senior Jeremy Gandon. The Charpey, France, native looks to continue the strong play he showcased at the end of a successful junior season, which included tying for the Big 12 Championship and a 72.72 stroke average that ranked eighth in school history.
K-State's lineup will feature Gandon, along with junior Ben Fernandez, sophomore Kyle Vance, freshman Will Hopkins and redshirt freshman Brian Choe.
"We are excited to get the season started in Iowa this weekend," fifth-year head coach Grant Robbins said. "We have some guys who have earned their way into the lineup and have shown some great potential in practice the last couple weeks. Cedar Rapids Country Club is a classic Donald Ross design, which should be a strong test. We are looking forward to the challenge."
The Wildcats last played in the Golfweek Conference Challenge in the fall of 2015, placing fourth of 15 teams with a three-round score of 852 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. Gandon tied for first in the event – just his second collegiate tournament – with a 54-hole score of 11-under par 205.
K-State will be joined in Cedar Rapids by Arkansas State, Ball State, Boston College, Campbell, Dayton, Furman, Iowa, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Southern Illinois, UCLA and UTEP.
