K-State Tennis Completes Day One of Big 5 Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Kansas State women's tennis team began its fall season on Thursday night at the Big 5 Challenge at Baynard H. Friedman Tennis Center, as the Wildcats played three doubles matches against two nationally ranked opponents.
The Cats went 0-3 after going up against three doubles pairings from Arizona State, of which two are ranked in the top 50 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation (ITA).
Sophomores Margot Decker and Maria Linares went up against Arizona State's Lauryn John-Baptiste and Ilze Hattingh. Decker and Linares ended up falling 2-6 to the No. 8 ranked duo in the nation.
Junior Ines Mesquita and sophomore Anna Turco were defeated by Savannah Slaysman and Cali Jankowski. Mesquita and Turco fell short to the No. 50 ranked duo, 3-6.
Tereza Kolarova and Sammi Hampton overtook the Cats' freshman Ioana Gheorghita and sophomore Rosanna Maffei to end the night. Gheorghita and Maffei fell 1-6 to the Sun Devil duo.
The Cats will continue the four-day event Friday with a mix of singles and doubles play. K-State will either begin at 11:30 a.m., or at approximately 2:30 p.m., pending weather. Fans can find live updates and results during the tournament on the team's official Twitter page @KStateTEN.
