K-State Travels to Arkansas for Competitive Razorback Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams leave the Sunflower State for the first time this indoor season, as the Wildcats travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in the Razorback Invitational on January 25-26 at Randal Tyson Track Center.

The Razorback Invitational begins on Friday with the combined events at 12:25 pm CT, before continuing Saturday at 11:25 am. The Razorback Invitational will be broadcast live by the SEC Network on Friday beginning at 6:00 pm and Saturday at 1:00 pm. The meet can also be streamed on WatchESPN by clicking here.

"We look forward to these competitions and will do the best we can, but we have to keep training hard," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto said following the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular. "I think we have some people showing that they are headed in the right direction. We just have to keep getting sharper."

The Razorback Invitational draws some of the best competition from around the country, including 10 teams ranked in the top-30 of the USTFCCCA week one Ratings Index, including the No. 1 Arkansas women, No. 2 Florida men, No. 6 Florida women, No. 8 LSU men and the No. 28 K-State men, among others.

The Wildcats return to the Razorback Invitational for the second-straight season, both the men's and women's teams placed fifth overall at the meet in 2018. K-State has an extensive history of competing at the Randal Tyson Track Center, where the Wildcats have competed at for five-consecutive seasons. In 2016-17, then-sophomore, Shardia Lawrence broke the school record on the triple jump runway at the Tyson Invitational, jumping 13.75m/45-01.50.

K-State features a number of entries throughout the two-day Razorback Invitational, getting started with the combined events, where senior Morgan Coffman and junior Ariel Okorie will compete in the pentathlon for the second time this season. In the men's heptathlon, senior Simone Fassina and junior Aaron Booth will make their season debuts in the seven-event competition.

Friday also features a number of field events, including the men's and women's weight throw, men's and women's high jump and men's and women's pole vault. In the women's high jump, junior Shanae McKenzie will look to up her personal best from a week ago, where she jumped 1.78m/5-10, which currently ranks 12th in the NCAA.

The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, in a day that will feature the men's and women's 60-meter dash preliminaries and finals, men's and women's mile and men's and women's triple jump, among others.

Through four meets this season, the Wildcats boast several top-marks in the NCAA, including eight individuals that rank in the top-20 of their respective events. Following the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular last week, the Wildcats garnered top-15 team rankings in the Track and Field News Dual Meet Rankings, with the K-State women ranking No. 7 and the K-State men ranking No. 11.

Following the Razorback Invitational, K-State will continue their road trip to the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 1-2. The Wildcats will return home to Ahean Field House to compete in the Steve Miller Open on February 16.
