
K-State Women’s Basketball to Host Second Annual Tip-off Event

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State women's basketball will host the second annual Women's Basketball Tip-off Event featuring K-State legends Nicole Ohlde, Priscilla Gary-Sweeney and Megan Mahoney on Monday, November 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Theede Club of the West Stadium Center. Tickets are available now through the K-State Athletics Ticket Office.
The evening will include a buffet dinner, an introduction of the 2019-20 roster, a question and answer session with the K-State legends in an open-panel format and a question and answer session with K-State head coach Jeff Mittie.
Fans can purchase tickets for $35 for adults and $15 for children 2-12 years of age beginning today. This is a business casual event with attendees encouraged to wear K-State apparel. Tickets may be purchased through the K-State Athletics Ticket Office at kstatesports.com/tickets or by calling (800) 221-CATS.
Table sponsorships are also available for the event, with tables available for $500. Table sponsors will receive a cocktail hour beginning at 5:30 p.m., and a meet and greet and photo session with the K-State legends on the fourth floor of the West Stadium Center. The table sponsors will also receive the 2019-20 edition of the K-State women's basketball team coin. Each sponsored table will include seven seats and one player or coach to be seated at the table.

Ohlde was a big part of a stellar run for women's basketball at Kansas State. Ohlde was a two-time consensus first team All-American, a two-time State Farm Wade Trophy and Naismith National Player of the Year awards finalist and a two-time Big 12 Player of the Year in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. In her career with the Wildcats, she was a four-time All-Big 12 First Team selection and a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team recipient.
She was also the league's freshman of the year in 2001. She helped K-State to a Big 12 regular season title in 2004 and propelled the Wildcats to three NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2002.
Ohlde stamped her name across the K-State record books, as she ranks second in school history for career points (2,241), rebounds (995), field goals made (882), blocks (204) and double-doubles (39). She holds the school record for career free throws made (476) and career free throws attempted (707).
Following her final regular season game in a K-State uniform, Ohlde became the first Wildcat women's basketball player to have her jersey retired. In the 2004 WNBA Draft, Ohlde was the number six overall selection by the Minnesota Lynx. She played seven seasons in the WNBA and helped the Phoenix Mercury capture the 2009 WNBA title.
Gary-Sweeney was a member of the Wildcats from 1981 to 1983. A guard from Memphis, Tennessee, Gary-Sweeney was a Wade Trophy finalist in 1983, the program's first Kodak All-American, a Kodak All-Region Five selection and a two-time All-Big Eight First Team selection.
Gary-Sweeney was a member of two Big Eight regular season title teams and one Big Eight Tournament title squad. In the 1981-82 season, Gary-Sweeney teamed with Tammie Romstad to push K-State to the Elite Eight of the inaugural NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. Gary-Sweeney ranks 26th in program history for career points with 1,169 points and holds the K-State career scoring average record at 18.3 points per game.
Mahoney was a letterwinner from 2001 to 2005. A combo guard/forward from Sturgis, South Dakota, Mahoney was a three-time All-Big 12 selection including a first team honor in 2003. She was also a solid student, as she was a three-time Academic All-Big 12 recipient.
Mahoney helped K-State to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances during her career, including a Big 12 regular season title in the 2003-04 season. Mahoney ranks 17th in program history for career points with 1,307, ranks eighth for career rebounds with 804 and ranks second in career assists with 589. She was the first player in program history to dish out 100 or more assists in four straight seasons.
After her K-State playing career concluded, Mahoney was a third-round draft pick of the Connecticut Sun in the 2005 WNBA Draft. She played two seasons with Connecticut (2006 and 2007). Mahoney then played 14 seasons in Europe including 10 in Italy, retiring from professional basketball earlier this year.
Kansas State women's basketball will be led by head coach Jeff Mittie, who is entering his sixth season in Manhattan with a record of 100-66 (.602) and five postseason appearances with the Wildcats.
On the floor, K-State returns nine letter winners from the 2018-19 season which were responsible for 70 percent (1,496 points) of K-State total scoring from a season ago. The Wildcats are third in the Big 12 for total points returning in 2019-20.
The Wildcats will be led by the trio of senior Peyton Williams, junior Rachel Ranke and sophomore Christianna Carr. Williams, a 2020 All-America candidate, enters her final season with the K-State women's basketball program as the fourth player in program history with 1,000 or more career points, 600 or more career rebounds and 80 or more career blocks.
Ranke, a guard from Burnsville, Minnesota, is on the verge of becoming the 43rd player in program history with 1,000 or more career points. She ranks 10th in program history for career 3-point field goals made with 160 career connections. In the 2018-19 season, Ranke averaged 10.0 points and 3.3 rebounds.
In her first season with the Wildcats in 2018-19, Carr garnered 2019 Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors and averaged 9.8 points and 2.8 rebounds for the season. Against Michigan in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Carr poured in 21 points and became the fourth freshman in program history to score 20 or more points in an NCAA Tournament game.
In addition to the nine returners, the Wildcats welcome in graduate transfer and Nancy Lieberman Award candidate Angela Harris, redshirt freshman Ayoka Lee and freshmen Emma Chapman, Emilee Ebert and Jada Thorpe. Entering the 2019-20 season, Harris is the only active NCAA Division I women's basketball player with 1,000 or more career points, 200 or more career assists, 200 or more career rebounds, 200 or more career steals and 185 or more career 3-point field goals made.
