Dec 03, 2019 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State middle blocker Peyton Williams was named to the 2019 All-Big 12 Second Team while outside hitter Anna Dixon earned All-Big 12 Rookie Team accolades, as the league office announced its annual all-conference awards Tuesday.
Williams, a redshirt junior, becomes the first player in Big 12 history to earn All-Big 12 honors in both volleyball and women's basketball, as she was named All-Big 12 First Team following the 2018-19 women's basketball season.
She earns the second all-conference volleyball honor of her career after being named to the All-Freshman Team in 2017. Williams set career highs this season in kills (239), kills per set (2.17), aces (23), points (317) and total blocks (99).
The 6-foot-4 Topeka product ended the regular season fifth in the Big 12 in offensive efficiency at .314. Williams has led K-State in hitting percentage in each of the last three seasons, finishing her career with a .315 efficiency which ranks fifth in program history (rally-scoring era). She hit .300 or better 14 times in 2019 and eclipsed the .400 plateau on seven occasions.
Williams registered a career-best 12 matches in double-digit kills this season, including a personal-high 17 against Central Arkansas on September 7. She led the team in kills three times while leading or tying for the team lead in blocks 13 times.
Dixon was selected to the All-Rookie Team following a freshman campaign in which she turned in 292 kills with a team-best 2.89 kills per set. Her 3.14 kills a set during conference play ranked seventh in the Big 12. Dixon's overall and league kills-per-set averages were tops among all Big 12 freshmen.
Additionally, the Louisburg native turned in 84 digs, 47 total blocks and nine service aces in her initial season. Nine times she led the Wildcats in kills, including a stretch of seven consecutive matches, and recorded double-figure kills in 12 straight outings from September 20-November 2.
Dixon produced a career-high 21 kills in back-to-back outings: at Oklahoma on October 16 and then again on October 23 in a come-from-behind five-set victory over rival Kansas. She turned in her first career double-double against West Virginia (October 30) with 16 kills and 11 digs.
K-State has had multiple all-conference performers every year since 2011, with at least one All-Freshman/Rookie Team selection in seven straight seasons. Dixon and Williams mark the 48th and 49th All-Big 12 selections in the 19-year career of head coach Suzie Fritz.
