Cats Take Second at Texas State Invitational
Feb 12, 2019 | Women's Golf
KYLE, Texas– The Kansas State women's golf team started its spring schedule on the right foot as the Wildcats made another four-spot improvement during Tuesday's final round to finish in second place at the Texas State Invitational held at the par-71, 6,059-yard Plum Creek Country Club.
The Wildcats carded an 11-over par 295 on Tuesday to edge Tulsa by one shot. K-State finished the 54-hole event at 22-over par 874.
"I am very pleased with how we finished after a poor first nine holes of the event," head coach Kristi Knight said. "The scores were much higher today for most of the field due to the winds. We did not start well this morning and got over par early, but the ladies did a great job getting to second place."
Freshman Briony Bayles led three Wildcats that finished in the top 20. She came up big for K-State on Tuesday by carding a 1-under par 70. The Durham, England, native jumped 29 spots during the final round to tie for 13th at 5-over par 218.
Senior Chloe Weir shot a 2-over par 73 on Tuesday to tie Bayles for 13th. Sophomore Ella Adams joined them in the top 20 as she tied for 18th at 6-over par 219. Reid Isaac finished the event tied for 31st at 11-over par 224, while Niamh McSherry carded a 13-over par 226 to tie for 40th.
UTSA ran away with the team title as the Roadrunners shot a scorching 2-over par 854. Hannah Alberto of Sam Houston State held her 36-hole lead to take home the individual title at 6-under par 207, one shot ahead of UTSA's Julie Houston.
The Wildcats will be back in action February 25-26, as they compete in the Icon Invitational in The Woodlands, Texas.
