K-State Sweeps Arizona in Dallas

DALLAS – The K-State women's tennis team collected its first win in program history over the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, after the Wildcats produced a 4-0 sweep at the SMU Tennis Complex.
"We did great job of getting recovered physically and mentally for this match," said head coach Jordan Smith. "We made some adjustments with our approach in doubles, then came out more aggressive and played more to our style. We carried the momentum extremely well in singles today. Great overall team performance today and on the weekend."
The day began with doubles matches, where sophomores Anna Turco and Margot Decker defeated Emma Wilson and Gittie Heynenmans, 6-2. Freshman Karine-Marion Job and junior Ines Mesquita defeated Talya Zandberg and Camila Wesbrooks, 6-5 to capture the doubles point.
The freshmen team of Maria Ponomareva and Ioana Gheorghita went unfinished but led 5-4 in their match.
To begin singles play, Job defeated Sophia Thomas, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 position. At No. 4, Turco defeated Marie Van Aelst, 6-2, 6-1. Decker claimed a victory over Wesbrooks, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.
Ponomareva, Mesquita and Linares went unfinished during their singles matches.
K-State is now 5-2 for the spring season. After Saturday's matchup, they are 21-14 in singles and 9-9 in doubles. Job leads the team with a 5-1 singles record that includes four straight win, while Decker and Turco lead doubles, 4-3.
The Wildcats will return home to Manhattan on Thursday, February 23, to go head-to-head against the SMU Mustangs at 12 p.m.
