
K-State Set for Big 12 Indoor Championship in Lubbock

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the Big 12 Indoor Championship on February 22-23 at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas, as the Wildcats battle to see who is on top of the Big 12 Conference.
The two-day meet kicks off on Friday at 10:00 a.m. CT and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. In total, 38 individuals will be crowned Big 12 Champions, while two teams will take home the team competitions. The meet will stream live on FloTrack, while single-session and whole session tickets to attend the Big 12 Indoor Championship are available starting at $5 for youth and $10 for adults.
This year marks the first Big 12 Indoor Championship to be held in Lubbock, Texas and the first in the state of Texas since 2012. The last six Big 12 Indoor Championships were held at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa.
As a team, the K-State women ranked No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference Track and Field Ratings Index (TFRI) released by the USTFCCCA on Monday, while the K-State men ranked No. 5. The TFRI ranks teams based on scored marks throughout the season, as Texas Tech came in at No. 1 in both the men's and women's rankings.
Individually, 29 Wildcats rank in the top-8 of their respective event based on marks scored this season, while five individuals rank at the top of the conference, including Tejaswin Shankar (high jump), Aaron Booth (heptathlon), Shardia Lawrence (triple jump), Helene Ingvaldsen (weight throw) and Lauren Taubert (pentathlon).
At last year's Big 12 Indoor Championship, the K-State women came out in fifth by scoring 85 points, while the K-State men placed sixth with 59.50 points. Two Wildcats also claimed Big 12 individual Championships, as Mitch Dixon won the men's weight throw and Nina Schultz won the women's high jump.
In the 22 years of Big 12 Indoor Championship history, K-State has claimed a total of 70 individual Big 12 Championships (32 men's, 38 women's) and four Big 12 meet records that still stand today. The K-State men earned their best finish at the Big 12 indoor meet in 2004, where the team placed second, while the women earned their best finish by placing second at the 2001 and 2015 championships.
