MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz announced she is sending seven Wildcats to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team Open Tryout at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from March 1-3.
K-State's list of participants includes setter Teana Adams-Kaonohi, outside hitter Brynn Carlson, outside hitter Anna Dixon, setter Sarah Dixon, middle blocker Faith Hammontree, defensive specialist/libero Loren Hinkle and opposite Gloria Mutiri.
The tryout will evaluate athletes from 87 colleges from across the country for spots on the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team programs. U.S. Women's National Team head coach Karch Kiraly will direct the entire tryout process. Kiraly is a three-time Olympic gold medalist and a U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer.
The three-day tryout will involve four sessions with three waves per session. Friday's first session runs from 3-9 p.m. CT, while Saturday's sessions are at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The final session on Sunday begins at 8:30 a.m. with tournament-style play and concludes at 11:30 a.m.
A live stream of the sessions will be available at TeamUSA.org.
Sarah Dixon and Mutiri each turned in AVCA All-America Honorable Mention campaigns in 2018 in addition to being tabbed AVCA All-Region. Carlson earned an opportunity to play with the U.S. Junior National Team in 2017 while Mutiri participated in USA Volleyball's High Performance Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last spring.
K-State will also send four incoming freshmen who joined the program in January to the tryout in Adams-Kaonohi (Honolulu, Hawaii), Anna Dixon (Louisburg, Kansas), Hammontree (Shawnee, Kansas) and Hinkle (Shawnee, Kansas).
