Wildcats Travel to Lubbock for Texas Tech Shootout

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men's and women's track and field teams travel to the Texas Tech Shootout at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on February 8-9, as the teams look to continue their success on the road.

The Texas Tech Shootout begins on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with the combined events, followed by the field events at 4:00 p.m. and events on the track at 4:45 p.m. Day two of competition picks up on Saturday 10:00 a.m. For a full schedule of the Texas Tech Shootout, click here.

This weekend's Texas Tech Shootout marks the seventh meet of the season for the Wildcats and the fourth straight on the road, before coming home to Ahearn Field House on February 16 to host the Steve Miller Open. One week later, the Wildcats return back to Lubbock for the Big 12 Championship on February 22-23, hosted at the Sports Performance Center.

The Wildcats have put together some good numbers this indoor season, with the K-State women's team earning two straight Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors. This week, freshman Alex Ferguson earned her first career Athlete of the Week honors after running 1:30.35 in the women's 600 meters at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational to win the event. Ferguson's time also ranks eighth in the NCAA and first in the Big 12 this season.

A week prior, senior Shardia Lawrence garnered her first career Athlete of the Week honors for jumping 13.58m/44-06.75 in the women's triple jump at the Razorback Invitational. Along with the awards, the Wildcats hold five marks that are at the top of the Big 12 entering this weekend, while also holding seven marks that are in the top-16 of the NCAA.

As a team, the K-State men ranked No. 18 in the week three USTFCCCA Ratings Index, while the women ranked No. 39, including a No. 4 mark in the Midwest. This weekend, the Wildcats will have the opportunity to face off against some tough competition, including several members of the Big 12.

Among the teams competing at the Texas Tech Shootout, host Texas Tech enters as the No. 1 team in the men's rankings, while the Texas Longhorns rank No. 8 and No. 7 between the men's and women's teams. In addition, BYU, Abilene Christian, Air Force, Arizona, New Mexico State, Oklahoma State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, University of Pennsylvania, UTA and Wyoming will also compete.
