K-State to Compete at 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays

MANHATTAN, Kansas – The men's and women's track and field teams will be in action at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas on March 28-30, as the Wildcats make their first appearance at the meet since 2014.
 
The Wildcats get started at the Texas Relays on Thursday, beginning with the women's hammer throw, men's javelin and men's 5,000 meters, before competing in relays, field events and individual events on Friday and Saturday. The 92nd running of the Texas Relays will be televised live on Longhorn Network throughout the weekend. For a full schedule of events, click here.
 
The Texas Relays features one of the largest collegiate track and field meets during the outdoor season, featuring 210 University/College teams with over 2,400 athletes competing throughout the meet. Eight Big 12 schools are also represented at the Texas Relays, including Baylor, Kansas, K-State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas and Texas Tech. 
 
K-State has an extensive history in competing at the Texas Relays, dating back to their first appearance in 1926. Since then, K-State has claimed 35 event victories in 15 different events. The last K-State Texas Relays champion came in 2014 when Sara Savatovic took home the crown in the women's hammer throw.
 
This weekend, K-State will have a total of 13 individuals and five relays competing throughout the three days of competition. The Texas Relays serves as the third meet of the outdoor season for the Wildcats, after recently completing the Aztec Invitational on March 21-23.
 
On Friday, The Wildcats will compete in three relay events, including the women's 4x400 meter relay prelims at 9:35 a.m. and the men's and women's sprint medley relay at 4:30 p.m. K-State will also appear in a variety of events on the track and in the field, including the women's 100-meter hurdles prelims, women's triple jump and men's discus, among others.
 
The Wildcats round out the Texas Relays on Saturday, competing in the women's 4x800 meter relay, men's 4x200 meter relay, women's discus and men's and women's shot put.
 
So far this season, the Wildcats hold six marks that rank in the top-24 of the NCAA, including senior Brett Neelly's throw of 19.40m/63-0.75 in the men's shot put, which ranks fourth across the country. In addition, K-State holds five marks that rank atop the Big 12 conference.
 
In the USTFCCCA preseason ratings index released on March 18, the K-State women ranked No. 17 in the country, while the K-State men ranked No. 39. The Wildcat women begin their 2019 outdoor campaign as the reigning Big 12 Outdoor Champions, winning the title in consecutive seasons in 2017 and 2018.
 
Following the Texas Relays, the Wildcats will travel to Arizona to compete in the Jim Click Combined Events on April 4-5 in Tucson, Arizona, and the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona on April 5-6.
