Apr 10, 2019 | Track & Field
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State Track and Field junior Lauren Taubert was named Big 12 Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday, after recording the No. 3 heptathlon score in the country and No. 6 in the world at the Jim Click Combined Events in Tucson, Arizona this weekend.
Taubert, a native of Casper, Wyoming, claims her second-career Big 12 Athlete of the week honor of her career, after winning the award during the 2018 indoor season. At the Jim Click Combined Events, Taubert set personal bests in five of the seven heptathlon events, leading to her personal best score of 5,669 points, which also ranks No. 5 in K-State outdoor history.
"I think it shows all of the hard work that she has put into it," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto said of Taubert. "She has worked hard in every event to be where she is at now and she deserves it, she has done very well."
Taubert's performance at the Jim Click Combined events was highlighted by big personal bests in the 100 meter hurdles, where she ran 13.66, which ranks 10th in K-State outdoor history in the event, while closing out her heptathlon with a personal best 2:12.34 in the 800 meters. Taubert won two individual events of the heptathlon the 200 and 800 meters, while placing in the top-5 of five of the events.
With her Big 12 Athlete of the week honor, Taubert becomes the 11th Wildcat on the women's team to claim the honor during the outdoor season, with A'Keyla Mitchell claiming the last honor on May 9, 2018.
